Poll question: Lamont Strategy: Should he ignore Traitor Joe and focus on GOP?
I think Skinner brought up a great point in his thread that the Lamont campaign should attack the "official" GOP candidate in CT to start bringing up his poll numbers. Skinner pointed out that the GOP candidate is polling about 4% in the latest Q-Poll (Rasmussen has him at 13%). Lamont should point out that the GOP candidate is anti-choice, pro-estate tax cut, ect in an effort to get his numbers up to around 20% and pull Republican support away from Lieberman.

or

Should he set his fire on Lieberman and point out that in effect Joe is the defacto GOP nominee--endorsed by Rove, ect. That Bush, himself, isn't even endorsing the GOP candidate and tie the mantle of Bush (whose approval rating in CT is about 25%) around Joe. Attack Joe on the war and having become a Bush lapdog.

1. Honestly I don't know what to think
I was surprised that the media assassinated him like it did, especially when he is anything but radical left. I mean, his opinions are in line with a majority of people in his state. How does that make it some kind of fringe radical?

If even a moderate Democrat has to face this much nonsense to get elected, I shudder of thinking of how a real progressive leftist could ever be elected (bernie sanders of VT will probably get there, funny the media isn't attacking him when he's far to the left of lamont).

2. Ignoring Lieberman isn't going to make him go away.
I think it's a poorly thought out strategy, as Lieberman is currently in the lead. I've never seen a campaign actually work where the front-runner was completely ignored. People are deciding the lesser of two evils, and unlike us Democrats, they're not going to single issue vote on this one.

3. both
certainly attack the repub to draw attention to him, but intensify the lieberman=bush meme. He should also stress that he is a Democrat with a big D, in contrast to little d lieberman. He should stress that he'll stand up to bush's insanity, rather than support it.

Will there be debates?

4. I think *We* should go after Joe.
Use his own Rovian tactics against him and smear him... to the right. Point out his Pro-Choice, anti-gay marriage amendment, pro gun control, pro flag burning positions and torch him for it.

We should send out unaffiliated emails to RWers in CT and get them so turned off by Joe to their own social voting conscience that his support for the war won't be enough to get them to the polls.

Then Lamont can go after Schlesinger a little and throw jabs at Leiberman for not wanting to listen to the will of the Democrats in CT... He can do so without getting too muddy and come off as squeaky clean Ned Lamont.

There might not be a majority with Republicans in CT but I'm willing to bet that a large portion of them that would vote for Bush and his fundies would be turned off by Joe's social stances.

5. No, Lamont should treat Lieberman like a de facto GOP candidate
and keep pinning him to Bush, who has about a 27% approval rating in CT.

6. Lamont needs to focus on democratic ideals and NOT
Edited on Mon Aug-21-06 02:32 PM by SoCalDem
stoop to any shenanigans.. With the blogosphere at warp-speed, anything he does that "smells" will be amplified and hung around his neck like a big ole albatross.. Joe already is wearing one..... No need for ned to put one on willingly..

All he needs to do is speak HIS messgae loud & clear and refute the crap that Lieberman slings at him..

One big one he should debunk is the "90% myth"..

Holy-Joe loves to tout that one, but all it means is that he easily supported losing democratic legislation 90% of the time but that 10% where he voted with the repubes...well those bills PASSED...and did a lot of damage..
