and then call some of the companies that make consumer products and threaten a boycott unless Joe drops out.

Ok, I found some of the largest contributors. I suggest people call some of these companies en masse and tell the CEO, unless Joe drops out, you will not buy their products again.

However, I don't think the Repugs are going to get that many of the non-affiliated votes. The only support they have left are the hard core Bushbots and Lamont is turning out to be a formidable candidate.

8. Mr. Lamont Has A Pretty Good Chance, Sir
He needs to put himself forward to the state's electorate in a positive manner, and increase his name recognition there. A good deal of Lieberman's expressed support is little more than his greater familiarity to people who do not pay a good deal fo attention. The state is small enough good retail politics can readily out-weigh some of the cable-news swill being focused on the contest. Lieberman's identification with Bush and the war will be a continuing asset to Mr. Lamont, eroding support for Lieberman more and more as the actual casting of ballots nears.

Lieberman is a republican, who masqueraded as a Dem - but was a mole in the Democratic party, now running as a mole Independent!

Good riddance!

We know where Republican Lieberman stands...even if he had won as the Democratic candidate...he would still of voted with Bush & the republicans on important & crucial issues.

Glad Liberman is gone from the democratic party!!!

Lamont will WIN!!!

16. key to democrats winning in CT
is making sure everyone knows that Joe Lieberman is Bush's choice for CT. Dry up the remnant of Democrats that want to still vote for him, while making him unpalatable to the wingnuttery of the right. A vote for Joe is a vote for "politics as usual". Joe claims he wants to put aside partisanship, but his "independent" campaign is BASED on partisanship. Having been rejected by the democratic primary voters of his state, like a salivating dog, he prances across the isle to lap at the bowl of gruel besides Bush's stinky feet. His spouting of right wing talking points hurts democrats in down ticket races, and his being a best friend of Fox makes sure his nuttery is heard as the "voice of independent democrats" on the talking head shows.

He sullies what he could have considered a fairly distinguished three term career in the senate, and his legacy, with this bullshit. No one will remember his marching for civil rights. They'll remember him for the last six years, his votes on the bankruptcy bill, the Iraq war, Alito and Roberts, flushing the enron investigation, and all the other ways in which he has enabled this president, and finally, for his whining in his teacup over the CT primary voters rejecting him and calling for change. He's proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was indeed the WRONG VP pick in 2000. A whiny, petulant child of a man that gives in to bullies, employs bullies, and himself does his own fair share of bullies, with a moral compass that can't seem to distinguish principle from bone-headedness.

22. And, if Lamont comes out swinging against Schlesinger and talks
repeatedly about his stance on gay marriage, abortion rights and the fact that he is practically in bed with the BFEE, it may well swing more conservative rethugs FROM Lieberman to Schlesinger.

The conservative parts of CT are old money wealthy. And they are very outnumbered. The conservatives that I knew when I lived in New Caanan, Darien and Stamford voted their pocketbooks.

28. Bush approval ratings in Connecticut
http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=06fb0f8b-0867-4068-b2d4-9783b80eb806

Pay close attention to the Independent approval rating. The key is not just Lamont's antiwar stance, but Lieberman's ties to BUSH and his policies.

Speaking as a former Independent, the way Loserman lost the Democratic Primary, and THEN declared himself a "democratic" Independent, would make me very angry.

Mr. Lieberman is not an Independent. He is a sore loser trying to win anyway he can.

31. I don't think that's the case
There are two classes of Republican in Connecticut: extremely old money, and rich Repukes who work in NYC (mostly in the financial industry--stockbrokers, bank executives, merger-and-acquisition guys) but don't want to live there.

Joe Lieberman can't sit too well with either of these groups...because, while he's a de facto Republican, he ran for vice president of the United States as a Democrat. Therefore, he's either Still a Democrat or A Very Bad Republican.

In reality, no one's really sure what the fuck Joe Lieberman is. He votes with Bush. He votes against Bush. He votes his constituents' pocketbooks this week then votes to clean them out the next.

There is a bona fide Republican on the ballot in Connecticut; if he gets off his ass and reminds the voters of Connecticut that he's actually running for a senate seat, he might get some of the vote. But I think Lamont is going to Washington in January.

82. Or any other Republican, for that matter
George W. Bush may turn out to be the best friend the Democratic Party ever had.

By November, we're probably going to be looking at around 3000 American KIAs--and if anyone ever drops the number of guys who were wounded in action then died of those wounds, and adds it to the number of people who died before they reached the medical system, we're probably looking more at six thousand guys. Anyway, it's a lot of troops.

By November, the financial triple-whammy of ARMs adjusting to the point where people can't afford their mortgages coupled with a shit homebuyers market and the Bush Bankruptcy Act will turn a LOT of current homeowners into renters...and turn a lot of mortgages into worthless paper.

Gonna be lots of joblessness, and we farted away much of America's wealth-creation capacity. There are four wealth-creating industries: mining, agriculture, forestry and manufacturing. Agriculture belongs to big business, forestry is going away due to clearcutting, and manufacturing is either in Mexico or on the other side of the Pacific Rim. And I assume that lots of American ore is being smelted in Chinese plants because we have environmental laws and they don't so much. Service-based economies aren't all that sustainable.

32. I don't think so...
How many Democratic votes do you think Joe will lose in the general election that he got in the primary? That means he has to get 3 Republican votes for every two Democrats he loses in the General? I doubt that he will get the same 48% he got in the primary? I would guess he might get 30% tops? And how many Repubs do you think will actually vote for Joementum when it comes time to pull the lever?? My bet would be that he would not get 50% of the Republicans. Thirty percent of Democrats and fifty percent of Republicans would only get Joe up to about 30-32%. He still loses.

Yes some will support him, the hardliners, however it is a state filled with moderates and Lowell Weicker, who is well respected in the state and bears no love for hapless Joe, has stated his intent to use his influence with mod. pubs and indies on Lamont's behalf. In addition one week in politics is a long time, over two months is an eternity. I predict that by the end of Sept. he will manage to shoot himself in the foot. He's feeling like a victim right now and having a real pity party but I can see how in time, with no real new message, people will get tired of his whine and looking at his petulant puss.

The time to throw in the towel is after the votes have been counted.

51. Lamont has already cut Lieberman's lead in half
Let's remember that an earlier statewide poll had Lieberman leading Lamont by 21%. Now he only leads by 11%.

52. Now, we all know how obsessed George is with loyalty - he will talk
Joe into remaining a Democrat because he is so committed to it. And Joe will come to realize how important loyalty is to him, also.

69. Try My flash on for size - ain't gonna win If *I* can Help it..
Here's my latest work all about Joe LIEberman's ridiculous run as a "Party of One", which reminds me of "Army of One" (which gives ME a mental image of a guy stuck under fire in a foxhole, looking around and saying, "WHERE the hell IS EVERYBODY!!") :) -- Makes about as much sense in a marketing vein. Party of One, Translates into "Party of NONE" when it involved LIEberman, might as well be saying, "Party of ME", eh?

This flash also incorporates the fact that the Terror Lockdown on Liquids, etc came so close on the heels of Joe's Smackdown by Lamont as to not be considered credible - even today they are confirming that people will walk FREE because they don't have the evidence to hold them, let alone that there were NO Explosives in their possession, they hadn't even made reservations, etc, etc..

Meanwhile they talk about charging a PREGNANT woman for having some water, and a face wipe - this flash addresses those concerns as well, the fact that WE are being used as PUPPETS in a The Politics of Terror.

Remember, a republican said they'd ride this last nonThreat all the way into November. Let's prove them wrong.. Let's VOTE for Lamont, as we all know this last Primary was a referendum on Bush and his faked "war". The Nerve of LIEberman to shit all over the Democrats. It's like using a girlfriend to get you through medical school and then snatching up the Trophy Wife once you've graduated. How can we ever trust this Puppet again?

One of my best Flash works ever, and to the Tune of "Masters of War" by Mr Bob Dylan, and no truer words were spoken in our time.

Have a look at:

79. It is going to be extremely close...
Lieberman is a formidible opponent...

Many who make pollyannish comments here about how Lieberman has no chance are simply whistling past the graveyard.

The best way to defeat him is to face up to that reality and confront it...not pretend it isn't real...

80. The election is TWO months away, an eternity in politics

Lieberman has name recognition. That is ALL.

We are a bunch of political junkies. But, a huge percentage of people in CT are not even following the race, yet!

I understand your concern, but it is important to remember the apathy of the American public.

Lieberman in the democratic primary.

Weicker is a good allie though, but it isn't clear how effective he would be.

But think of it this way -- if Lieberman continues to caucus with the Dems, it's not much of a loss at all.

I'm focusing more closely on races where we have a chance to unseat a Republican. That's how we'll take back the Senate.
