He has one of the best environmental records in the Senate

A strong commitment to our Veterans with a record to prove it

10. The one I KNOW will open the books on BushInc - John Kerry.
And if any other candidate shows they can be trusted to open the books on the last 4 decades of the BFEE then that person will move up in my support.

I also think the person who will DESERVE to win in 2008 is the one who works to expose the machine fraud and works with the DNC to secure the vote BEFORE the election.

32. Read the congressional record and the National Security Archives.
Kerry kept taking Reagan and Bush1 to court to get more and more documents released to the public during his BCCI investigation. He also wanted Clinton to open the books on CIA drugrunning.

I am guessing you are not aware that it was Kerry who worked at uncovering IranContra, BCCI, illegal wars in Central America, and CIA drugrunning. Most of what we know today about the BFEE comes from those investigations in spite of the fact that MOST of DC and even most Democrats did NOT support his efforts and even worked against him to block or downplay his findings.

42. Which people?
Follow the Money
How John Kerry busted the terrorists' favorite bank.
By David Sirota and Jonathan Baskin

Two decades ago, the Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) was a highly respected financial titan. In 1987, when its subsidiary helped finance a deal involving Texas oilman George W. Bush, the bank appeared to be a reputable institution, with attractive branch offices, a traveler's check business, and a solid reputation for financing international trade. It had high-powered allies in Washington and boasted relationships with respected figures around the world.
All that changed in early 1988, when John Kerry, then a young senator from Massachusetts, decided to probe the finances of Latin American drug cartels. Over the next three years, Kerry fought against intense opposition from vested interests at home and abroad, from senior members of his own party; and from the Reagan and Bush administrations, none of whom were eager to see him succeed.

By the end, Kerry had helped dismantle a massive criminal enterprise and exposed the infrastructure of BCCI and its affiliated institutions, a web that law enforcement officials today acknowledge would become a model for international terrorist financing. As Kerry's investigation revealed in the late 1980s and early 1990s, BCCI was interested in more than just enriching its clients--it had a fundamentally anti-Western mission. Among the stated goals of its Pakistani founder were to "fight the evil influence of the West," and finance Muslim terrorist organizations. In retrospect, Kerry's investigation had uncovered an institution at the fulcrum of America's first great post-Cold War security challenge.

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2004/0409.sirota.html

In 1987, the Senate Subcommittee on Narcotics, Terrorism and International Operations, led by Senator John Kerry, launched an investigation of allegations arising from reports, more than a decade ago, of contra-drug links. One of the incidents examined by the "Kerry Committee" was an effort to divert drug money from a counternarcotics operation to the contra war.
On July 28, 1988, two DEA agents testified before the House Subcommittee on Crime regarding a sting operation conducted against the Medellin Cartel. The two agents said that in 1985 Oliver North had wanted to take $1.5 million in Cartel bribe money that was carried by a DEA informant and give it to the contras. DEA officials rejected the idea.

45. That's not true - Kerry worked alone in the senate for a full year
and had to convince other senators for an official investigation, something they agreed to only when the press reports started adding up and they could no longer ignore the case he had built.

I would guess you are not abreast of how any of those investigations came down or how they were pursued doggedly or how even other Dems tried to block them.

64. Jack Blum is a great guy and was a solid investigator.
He was one of the few who supported Kerry on TV during the 2004 campaign and knowledgeably promoted his investigative work.

There have been stories out on the internet that twisted Blum's version of what happened to make it appear that Kerry was the one covering up, no doubt planted by the David Horowitz type operatives pretending to be from the left, but Blum, when he has spoken in person, has always told the straightforward scoop about the investigation being blocked by those who tried to COERCE Kerry into stopping his work. Truth is that Kerry would take Bush administration to court to get documents released and Bush would have many of the documents declared National Security.

There are several books that have been written about the case. They are very matter of fact with no chicken fat added.

69. Here's my thing with Kerry
Yesterday's Lieberman commentary aside, I don't think he's willing to speak truth to power anymore. I think he ran a mediocre Shrum-like 2004 campaign and seemed afraid of winning. Look at Lopez Obrador in Mexico - that's a guy who is willing to go the extra mile. After the 2004 campaign, I have my doubts about Kerry - he won't go to the barricades. We cannot afford to lose in 2008 - if he won't risk his life like Jack and Bobby and MLK and Malcolm and Wellstone, then he can't run.

Jack Blum is a hero. John Kerry was a hero.

70. I disagree - I think today's media edits out the aspects of ANY Dem's
campaign that seriously hurts BushInc or the fascist agenda of their owners. What the public sees and hears is the campaign the media chose to portray and it just so happens to support Rove's chosen storyline.

Read Boehlert's book, Lapdogs, and you'll see exactly how it happened.

75. You are kidding right???????
Russ Feingold:

Elected to the U.S. Senate in 1992; Re-elected in 1998 and 2004.

U.S. Senate Committee Assignments: Judiciary, Foreign Relations, Budget and Intelligence

Elected to the Wisconsin State Senate in 1982; Re-elected 1986 and 1990

I don't know about you, but 3 terms in the U.S. Senate beats 1 term
In addition served 3 terms in the Wisconsin State Senate for 3 terms, 1982, 1986, 1990

Whereas, Edwards didn't complete 1 term before he was campaigning and running for the President and then the VP.

HUGE DIFFERENCE.

78. Frankly, I consider real life experience more important.
When he was eleven years old, Edwards wrote that he wanted to be a lawyer "to protect innocent people from blind justice the best I can." Edwards pursed this vision trying to live his life by righting wrongs, captivated by television shows like The Fugitive and Perry Mason. Twenty-seven years after he passed the bar exam, Edwards' track record as a litigator remains remarkable: according to North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, he obtained verdicts and settlements for his clients totaling more than $175 million over his career.
When he lost in 2004, he went straight into work on Poverty.

Feingold worked as an attorney at the private law firms of Foley & Lardner and La Follette & Sinykin from 1979 until 1985.<2> In 1982 he was elected to the Wisconsin State Senate where he served until his election to the United States Senate.

Don't get me wrong, I like Feingold, and he's done good, but Edwards has far more experience with regular people.

79. Feingold voted against the resolution on going into Iraq
Feingold's EXPERIENCE in the government gave him the EXPERTISE to make an informed decision. The Executive Branch of Government shouldn't be for on the job training, as Bush has so horribly shown us.

I question a person's motives and integrity that thinks that after not even a full term as Senator, they are qualified to run for the "leader of the free world" (so to speak). That requires a HUGE EGO, especially after voting and then backing up his vote during the Presidential Primary debates for the Iraq War in 04'.

I even knew that going into Iraq was opening a Pandora's Box, and I knew back in 2002, when they started beating the war drums. I am just a lowly civilian listening to the news and trying to understand our Nation's policies and actions from my home. I don't have any inside information, I am not a "brilliant" attorney, I am not a great person working for the common man and my father wasn't a mill worker.

I cannot support any candidate that supports a war that murdered thousands of innocent "everyday" men, women and children, not talking about the thousands of permanently maimed for no good reason. Iraq isn't one issue, it is many issues, Human Rights, Economy issues, Accountability Issues, Foreign Policy issues, Dept of Defense issues, Prisoner of War issues...... If Edwards, was fooled back then, then shame on the brilliant fighting for the common man him, and if he STILL supported his vote in 2004 (which he did), then he isn't Presidential or VP material. PERIOD

He'd be my ideal.

Here's how I'd rank others (in order after Kucinich) -

Barbara Boxer
Russ Feingold
John Kerry
Al Gore - X (best chance of winning)
Hillary Clinton
John Edwards

The rest would pretty much be the same (after Edwards)

Evan Bayh
Wesley Clark (still a ?)
Tom Vilsack
Mark Warner
Joe Biden

And at the bottom:

Tom Daschle
Joe Lieberman

31. My rankings, in order of preference:
Kucinich X
Feingold X
Gore X
McDermot X
Tubb-Jones X
Lee X
Schwietzer X

I've included Senators, Reps from the House, a former VP, and a governor. Only one of your list appears; the rest aren't anywhere on my list. They all have "Xs" because I think they all have an equal chance of winning, as does any candidate strong on progressive and populist issues. I think it's the strength of the campaign and the authenticity of the vote count that will determine who wins.

Gore would be my choice with Clark, Feingold, or Clinton as a running mate. I like Clark more and more, but I don't think he's strong on the domestic front. I want to look long-range...I want someone who can get us out of our overseas mess, and who can then return the focus back home to healthcare, education, environment, strengthening the middle and lower classes, strengthening families (all families, straight, gay, single-head of household)...that's my dream list.

41. Wow. The clear winner and front runner was somehow left off your list.
Namely, Al Gore.

Was that deliberate, or did his name slip your mind?

Funny, since I just read about half of An Inconvenient Truth. (I got the list of candidates from survey conducted several months ago.)

49. Al Gore
Al Gore is who I want and I think he has an excellent chance. If he doesn't run, I think Hillary has the best chance.

I look at it this way, if Al Gore runs, America will get a 2nd chance to put what Bush has done right again. I don't know if anyone else can begin to repair the damage.

the worker and consumer in favor of the ruling corporations. It's a staple conviction of his that a president's nominees should be confirmed, so it's not like he's just being a corporatist, even though it sets him up to draw fire.

That's the mixed bag you get with just about anybody.

83. All it takes is a little checking...
Look at her record in the Senate which has been quite liberal...her stand on the war by looking at her floor speech on the IWR and subsequent letter to constituents. That she is "pro-war" is a fallacy born of a repeated mantra by her opponents on the far left of the Party...

If you cannot tell the difference betwee her and a Republican you have either taken hook, line and sinker the disinformation spread about her, or have not looked into her record adequately enough.

87. Well, I am the far left of the party
and I'm sick of watching "centrists" sell out to the Republicans. There's not enough difference between her and Joe to convince me to vote for her. There are enough real Democrats out there. They'll be getting my support.

She voted for the war, votes consistently for "free trade" and against fair trade, supports privatization and de-regulation of all kinds of services and government functions. She voted for a larger defense budget than the Pentagon even ASKED FOR!!! She won't even consider criticizing Israel, no matter how heinous its behavior.

Even her so-called "health care reform" catered to private insurers.

She's DLC, and I won't vote for her. When she starts to vote like a Democrat, let me know.

93. Mine.....
Wesley Clark-- X cause that's who I think can make a difference in our future pentagon spending, resolving Iraq, and regaining good will from our allies as well as our enemies round the globe, and another X, cause that's who could win in a GE once folks actually listened to him!

Al Gore-- I like Al Gore, but I don't Love Al Gore although he did win in 2000. (his choice of Lieberman for vp in 2000 and his choosing not to fight election fraud as strongly as he could have then and now, and his choice of the cable channel he is running aren't pluses in his column).

Russ Feingold -- I like Russ, but I don't think he can win in a GE. Too many divorces, too single, too independent, too short, and a last name that's too Jewish.

John Kerry -- I like John Kerry, But I don't think he eminates the kind of energy that will be required to re-envigorate voters to support him again in 2008.

Mark Warner -- I don't like Mark Warner all that much, but I consider him above the rest not listed in his potential of giving voters a sense that he has the leadership skills (which I don't think he has in the Commander in chief arena) to mend our foreign policy, and I don't think that he could win the GE just based on that.
