I HATE health insurance

BOY am I mad right now. My daughter ( 18 months) has development delays and need a hearing test to rule out hearing loss. I went through the states early intervention for the evaluation and she qualifies for services. There is a 3-4 month what for her to start therapy. My ped wants a hearing test done right away to rule out hearing loss.

I called my insurance to make sure they cover it and they do not. They do not cover any type of hearing stuff at all. It is all self pay.

I am sick of health insurance companies ruling this country and deciding what my child needs and doesn't need.

4. Tell that to the people who don't want national health insurance on the
grounds that they don't want someone controlling their healthcare!

5. Hi earthmama. Check the policy yourself to make sure
that the rep was correct. It wouldn't be the first time that insurance company reps give policy holders incorrect information over the phone. If you get your insurance through an employer, perhaps you can speak with someone in benefits to verify this.

I have also found that if an insurance company hears any mention of "developmental delay" or "developmental disability" they will often turn down payment for services because of an exclusion clause for those conditions in the policy. If you do not know for sure that her delays in language are due to a specific disability, you should be able to get them to cover the test.

I have found that it very often worth fighting.

Also, find a local support group for parents of kids with developmental delays. I have found that other parents are often a great source of information for getting services for your child.
