My wife and I enjoy a good meal at the Longhorn Steakhouse in Exton, PA every now and then. We're in Maine (near Augusta) on vacation, so we thought we would go to the Longhorn up here. Much to my dismay, they had Fox News Channel on when we went in. My wife doesn't like it when I make a fuss, so we stayed, but I just e-mailed them through their website to complain about it, citing a number of stories on Media Matters about FNC. Feel free to do the same. :)

1. There must be something a bit surreal about tearing in to flesh...
...with Fox blaring in the background. I could never get the ribs with them playing.

2. We've experienced the same at Giordano's where I live.
It makes my blood boil. I never thought of zapping off an email. I'll get on it right away. Please post back here with their response (if any). :-)

6. Really...
Well, we actually live about 10 minutes west of there (the way I drive, anyway). Grew up in Downingtown, live in Coatesville.

7. How I long for the good old days when you could shop/dine
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 06:19 PM by SoCalDem
without TV on in the background. "Back in the day", the only time you could even FIND a TV on in a business setting was in the TV section of a store..and they only wanted to show you what a good picture the set had :)

We quit going to a place we really liked, because they always had the Country Music Video channel on, and it churned our stomachs to watch or listen to that twangy crap..

We asked them to change the channel once, and they claimed to not know where the remote was :..... we never went back

8. Next time you're here try the Ninety Nine Steakhouse instead.
I didn't even know Augusta had a Longhorn.

11. It's down the road from the Ninety Nine.
Across from the Civic Center, in the same section as Old Navy.

9. Why do we need TV's in restaurants anyway?
Can't we get away for a nice meal without all the pap we're bombarded with the rest of the day?

12. Get some fresh seafood instead. Why eat steak in Maine?
You're missing one of the best reasons to go there.

13. Two reasons...
One, we don't like seafood. Two, with the missus being pregnant, we don't want to take any of the chances usually associated with seafood/shellfish, etc. Of course, point number two is kind of moot considering point number one.

16. Why do restaurants have to play anything?
I can't stand music or tv in restaurants, grocery stores, department stores, doctors' offices. Can't we just have some silence now and then? I don't buy into the crap that says that muzak (or aural programming, or whatever they call it) encourages buying, soothes the customer, etc. Turn the damn music off.

There's a pizza place in my town that I don't go to because they always have the tv on - sports channels of various kinds. Great pizza - for takeout only. Another pizza place plays Greek music, which is somewhat bearable, but then some idiot will put some money in the jukebox and irritate everyone.

18. I heard back from Giordano's (see post #2).
Here's their reply:

Thanks for your comments. We encourage stores to have sports or entertainment stations on for the very reason you've stated. We're not out to make a political statement, just serve a nice pizza and let people have some fun. We'll talk to the folks operating the XXXX location about the station choices and the service. Thanks for letting us know.

:-)

19. I used to live in Exton.
Long before there was a Longhorn Steakhouse. We did eat at the Duhling Kurtz house, though.

Fine food.

Carry on ... I hate Fox, too.

They had on ESPN at the bar, and that was the only TV I saw at the place. This was during the UK airport freakout, so I thought it was kinda funny it wasn't turned to a "news" channel.
