Every time there's a protest, protesters should wear "BROWN SHIRTS" and
salute the SOB with the Nazi Salute. Maybe we should just wear BROWN SHIRTS EVERYDAY? A "BROWN MILITARY TYPE SHIRT." Maybe people would catch on to what this regime is doing. I've always been a "visual" learner, maybe people SEEING "BROWN SHIRTS" everywhere they go, will wake them the hell up?! I think, ESPECIALLY, at protests, this would make a powerful statement. Could you imagine a sea of people ALL wearing BROWN SHIRTS and ALL of them giving the SOB the Nazi salute? POWERFUL. Also, if you wear a BROWN SHIRT everyday and run into a RW asshole, you could give them the Nazi salute...no words needed! Whatcha think?

1. You give the general public too much credit
Most of them are too ignorant of history to understand the symbolism of a brown shirt.

3. The public can learn, however. But I expect the treatment of protesters
in the past would look like hospitality compared to what brown shirted, sieg-heiling protestors will receive.

People used to do little playlets as protests in the past at times. Maybe it could be effective as a mini-drama not in direct opposition to a repuke gathering.

It would likely be safer for participants as a quick non announced but attention gathering event

I have no doubt the symbolism etc would be lost on * and the rovererer, dual citizen of US/Germany.

2. I think its a stupid idea
People aren't going to associate the shirt or the salute with chimpy, they're going to associate it with those who wearing the shirt and giving the salute. No thanks.

4. You really think they wouldn't associate it with George Hitler Jr.?
I think they would "get it." Some may need it explained, but I think most people in this country know what's going on.

5. IF most people know what's going on
why do we need to protest at all?

Isn't the point that we need to demonstrate and educate people evidence that they don't know what's going on?

Perhaps i'm looking at this wrong, but I have to think, like others, they would see the brown shirts and assume that we are fascist, after a fashion.

7. It's not stupid. Just needs to be refined. Look what happened in Ukraine!
We can't just sit around in our spare time complaining to one another on the computer. We've also got to supplement our computer time with some real time in the streets, coming up with ideas similar to what the OP has come up with. The more ideas the better. The people of Kiev know just how to go about creating change.

8. at least in the orange revolution
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 11:03 AM by onenote
the protesters had the sense to adopt as their symbol their candidate's "color" not that of the opposition.

The issue isn't whether protests are or are not a good idea (and for the record, I think that protest are a good idea). Its whether the particular form of protest suggested in the OP is a good idea. I have no doubt that its a bad idea for those protesting chimpy to dress up like Nazis.

9. Oh, I agree. That's why I said we just need to refine the idea

The main thing is that we have to find a way to do the "orange" in this country and do it in such a way that it evokes similar emotions to what happened in Ukraine.

10. You want it to look like "Springtime for Hitler"? Go ahead!
Your visual message: "We are neo-Nazis. We are protesting George Bush."

The viewer's internal monologue: "Why do neo-Nazi's protest President Bush? It must be because he is different from them. He must be OK, then." You just lost another potential Democrat voter.

Now: Since "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction"......

Your neighbors see you on TV acting like Heinrich Himmler, and you end up with your car vandalized and your house picketed by the local AME church. There is nothing you can say to convince them that you are not the Oberlieutenant of the local "Sons of the Reich" chapter.

Your mailbox fills up with copies of "White Power and Moonshine Monthly" and "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion". Your mailman stops delivering to your house.

Then your parents see your face on TV, while you wear a brown shirt give the Nazi hand salute. Your mother says, "I can't believe our Johnny is a Nazi! I'm so ashamed!" Your father says, "Illinois Nazis. I hate those guys".

And then, your mother dies of a heart attack...or is it shame?

Geraldo Rivera invites you onto his TV show, then threatens to kick your ass on the air.

Brilliant idea you had- just feckin' brilliant.

Why stop at half measures? Maybe you can dress up in white sheets and carry a flaming cross and a Confederate flag, too. That'll show 'em!

I think I'll try this tactic instead: I'll convince people that I am a reasonable, hard-working, tax-paying American family man who opposes policies and practices of this Administration, and I propose a better way.

The Pagan Preacher
I'll dress like a pirate, but I won't dress like a Nazi.
