Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 10:11 AM by kpete
CNN - reporting that she was "tied up" and had vaseline, screwdriver, matches and a note mentioning al Queda...

United Airlines flight from London diverted Wed Aug 16, 2006 10:46 AM ET

BOSTON (Reuters) - A Washington-bound United Airlines flight from London was diverted to Boston on Wednesday after an onboard incident, and officials were searching the plane's luggage, a Boston airport official said.

"There was a supposed confrontation on board. There may have been a banned item on board and they are now searching the luggage," said Phil Orlandella, spokesman at Boston's Logan International Airport.

edit to add this from Raw Story:

Excerpts from the AP report follow....

An overseas flight from London's Heathrow Airport to Washington, D.C., was diverted to Boston Wednesday after the pilot declared an emergency because of a passenger disturbance.

A female passenger aboard United Flight 923 had Vaseline, a screw driver, matches and a note referencing al Qaeda, according to Phil Orlandella, spokesman for Boston's Logan International Airport.

The flight, with 182 passengers and 12 crew members landed safely, United spokesman Brandon Borrman said. Mr. Borrman said a female passenger was spotted engaging in some "suspicious" activity, but he could not immediately say what the activity was.

State Police and federal agencies took control of the plane after it landed.

1. Why is this report
reading more like a porn novel rather then a terrorist threat?

I mean vaseline & a screwdrive? I can think of a few things to do with that, but blowing up a plane isn't one of them.

31. Somehow I believe this was a set up and coordinated
with the airline..We will never hear anymore about this..It was an incident to make GB look as if the war on "terra" is succeeding.

13. You mean a screwdriver...like the drink?
Hey, if this broad boarded a plane with Vaseline in one hand and a drink in the
other--I doubt terrorism was on her mind!

The matches were for the cigarette she would smoke after her admission into the mile-high-club!

You go girl! Party on!

now you just gotta put a patch on afterward, which is totally not the same. ruined the joy of flight, imho.

Oh, geez.

NBC now reporting they don’t think the woman had a note.

AP now reporting that she may or may not have had Vaseline, screwdriver or matches. (Coming from Heathrow, how could she?)

Seems she was claustrophobic.

26. Confirmed - no items as previously claimed
She was simply claustrophobic...had none of the items reported earlier:

The federal security official said there was no indication of terrorism and denied reports that the woman had a screw driver, matches and a note referring to al-Qaida.

The female passenger aboard United Flight 923 said she was claustrophobic and became very upset and got into some kind of confrontation with the flight crew, said George Naccara, federal security director for the Transportation Security Administration for Massachusetts' airport...

Naccara said he did not believe any items she was carrying were the cause of the outburst. An airport spokesman previously said the woman was carrying lotion, a screw driver and matches, but backed off the statement, and Naccara said it wasn't true.
