Osama bin Laden = Emmanuel Goldstein
The sooner you realize it, the better you'll understand what's going on.

Excuse me, it's time for my two minutes hate.

1. I presume you mean
The sooner we share in your delusion, the more our understandings will line up with yours?

Probably true.

8. I have read 1984
And I know exactly what you mean to say by that.

And I don't believe your interpretation of the situation lines up with reality.

Incidentally I think it's perfectly possible for one to distrust and oppose Bush and his encroachment on our civil liberties while also being concerned about the potential for terrorist acts in the United States.

9. You're certainly entitled to your opinion.
I also have grave concerns about terrorism. But I'm a lot more concerned with treating the disease instead of the symptoms.

13. Fact is he is playing the exact role of Goldstein
I've been saying this for a couple of years now.

Whether you like it or not he is used as the scary shadowy character who keeps the bedwetters scared and willing to give up their freedom.

16. Bedwetters?
Nice.

Anyway there is a difference between saying that President Bush is using Osama Bin Ladin to erode away our freedoms (which I would agree with) and saying he is fictional or a CIA Mole or no threat at all (which I wouldn't agree with).

17. It is never made clear in 1984 whether Goldstein is fictional.
Although I can say that he sure picks opportune moments to pop up out of his cave.

choose to selectively trust this Administration.

You seem to be assuming that they were honest to you about Osama Bin Laden but as we know they have lied continuously on every other issue.

21. I don't need to trust this administration to believe in UBL
Plenty of Democrats have referenced his existance and his threat as well.

I don't think there's much virtue in assuming that because the administration says something it must be false any more than I would think there was virtue in assuming that because the administration says something it must be true.

24. Hmmmm. Nope, I'm afraid I have no special
information that proves that OBL was the perp. I guess I'm forced to conclude that Karl Rove must be the Perp.

6. Strange how the boogeyman makes more sense than our "leaders"...
It's almost as if someone's deliberately filling his mouth with our talking points. What a spectacular coincidence!

10. Thank you!
I've been saying this for several years now, but it certainly bears repeating whenever possible. Every time I reread 1984, I get more spooked. Should we start referring to England as Airstrip One yet?
