Control of Congress could change in '06, poll shows
OK! It's CNN. But I'll take it.

(CNN) -- Most Americans believe the GOP-controlled Congress has been a failure and say they plan to vote for Democrats in November, according to a poll released Wednesday.

Fifty-three percent of registered voters polled by Opinion Research Corp. for CNN said they were supporting Democrats, while 40 percent said they were leaning Republican. The remaining 7 percent either planned to support another party or had no opinion.

As for changing their minds when they get to the ballot box, only 43 percent of those planning to vote for Democrats said that was a possibility as opposed to 54 percent of those saying they plan to support Republicans.

Fifty-four percent said that since 1995, the GOP-led Congress has been a failure. Forty percent called it a success. In a similar 1998 poll, 58 percent of respondents called Congress successful.

cont'd...

3. The Cook survey gives the House to the Dems and says it's
50-50 chance Dems will take the Senate. I read it a few days ago.

SNIP
Looking at the House race by race, we rate 15 Republican-held seats and no Democratic ones as "toss-ups." House Democrats need a 15-seat gain, and it wouldn't take much of a wave for them to get it. Even without a big wave, Democrats could add five of the six seats they need to take over the Senate. And it's important to remember the typical domino effect in Senate elections -- the closest races tend to break overwhelmingly in the same direction.

The bottom line: Unless something happens to interrupt current patterns, the House will turn over and the GOP will hang on to the Senate by a thread.

Voter Registration Information

      Who can register to vote?
Nevada law provides that you must be 18 years of age
or over, a U.S. Citizen, and a resident of Nevada for 30 days
preceding any election. If you will be 18 years old or will

election, you are also eligible to register to vote. Any
person who has been declared by a court to be mentally
incompetent is not eligible to register and vote. Felons who
have not been restored to their civil rights are not eligible
to register and vote; however, recent legislation has provided
for automatic restoration of the right to vote for those who
have been honorably discharged from prison, probation or
parole, with certain exceptions related to the seriousness of
the crime committed.

What is the deadline for registering if I want to vote
in a particular election?
Close of registration for the Primary Election: July
15, 2006, if you register to vote by mail. July 25, 2006, if
you register to vote in person. Close of registration for the
General Election: October 7, 2006, if you register to vote by
mail. October 17, 2006, if you register to vote in person.
