"Jomentum" comes to a screetching halt, plus . . . .
The profits BP oil company has accumulated so far this year exceeds $13 billion; enough, one would think to replace aging, corroded, rusting pipelines, ensure proper maintenance, and stimulate corporate interest in BP’s responsibilities regarding its drilling in the ecologically sensitive Alaskan North Shore. However, the company already is part of a criminal probe into a much bigger Alaskan pipeline rupture in March, and on Sunday came the announcement that the company will shut down its Alaska operation because of a newly discovered leak in its pipeline system. The result? Price increases and shortages for residents of the West Coast. But, why maintain corporate responsibility in the Age of Bush? It’s no longer necessary. Government regulatory oversight is minimal if it exists at all; lies are the lingua franca of corporate America; and violations of the law are nothing more than something for the lobbyists to snicker about when they go dove killing with Cheney. We’ll discuss this and other examples of the adventures of the Bush Crime Family tonight.
