Scotty just screwed up
He said (I'm paraphrasing): "Zawahiri, Al Qaida's number two, called Iraq the central front in the war on terror."

So we're basing our military strategy on our sworn enemy's propaganda now? Does that strike anyone else as blindingly stupid? Or do we only base our strategy on enemy propaganda when it echoes the Bush Administration's own propaganda?

1. I think Iraq is a central front.

Because we made it so.

If it weren't so dangerous, and had it not cost so many lives, I would almost find it funny that * says we're making this a front in the war "so we don't have to fight them 'over here'" and yet so many of his supporters say that the US doesn't cause any of the terror.

Another contradiction: * says we're bringing freedom to Iraqis. Oh yeah? I thought we were making their backyards a "front" in the war on "terra"! How do you bring freedom to people when you're making their neighborhoods a central front for terrorism?

These people will say anything, moment to moment, consistency and logic be damned.

3. No it isn't.
There is open rebellion against our invasion and occupation of Iraq, and the tactics used by the vastly outgunned insurgents include tactics such as car bombs that are considered 'terrorist'. Why a car bomb is a terror tactic but blowing up civilians from drone planes is not is an exercise in perfidy that I refuse to go along with.

I'm sure that the forces of the Iraqi resistance would prefer to have military parity with us and go head to head with planes tanks ships etc, but they are fighting with what they've got, which is not much.

There are international islamic fundamentalist extremists groups that use terrorism as a weapon in a global struggle against the european and american world order. Conflating the two is a mistake. Both al qaeda and the Bush Cabal see it as in their interest to promote the view that Iraq is 'the central front in the war on terror'. Neither of them are correct.

2. I often wonder, if Scotty had a nose like Pinnochio, how long
it would now be. A good day for snotty scotty would be when he completes a press conference relatively unscathed, which doesn't happen often.
