Impeachment blog action planned for Sept. 1....
Planning an Impeachment Blog Action
Submitted by davidswanson on Thu, 2006-08-03 22:33. Impeachment Process
Starting at noon ET on September 1, 2006, and lasting 24 hours, websites and blogs all across the internet are being asked to replace their front pages with the single word "Impeach" in simple white text on a black background. Here's an example: http://impeachnet.net

Visitors to those sites and blogs will be able to click and link to the sites' usual front pages. But first they will see a word that, standing alone, is as powerful as any word right now: it is banned by our political and media leadership but more popular among citizens and activists than perhaps any other. It is both shocking and welcome. For 24 hours, web surfers and blog readers will see that word first when they visit their favorite sites. In this way, we hope to get the public talking about the one tool guaranteed by the Founders to restore our Constitutional Democracy. Please encourage your favorite websites to take part in this action. If you plan to take part, please let us know here:

1. Is this a plan by Rove?
Is this to reinforce the GOP meme that a Democratic win in November will lead to endless impeachment?

2. If Rove created the After Downing Street and Impeachpac.org sites...
Then perhaps so. :)

Just a side note.
I am not against impeachment. I am against feeding Rove memes. Why can't this take place when we are in a position to do it instead of having it used to deny us that possibility?

6. Because we need to feed the momentum for it in the public first.
And "it" will NOT "deny us that possibility." The majority of the American people support IMPEACHMENT. Acting cowardly and tentative once again out of fear of Rove is what will "deny us that possibility."

9. If a majority support it why do we need to feed it?
Despite basing that theory on an unscientific online poll I don't desire to dispute it. However it isn't fear of Rove but fear of the voters not wanting to go through the impeachment process. We need a majority of Americans to restore Democratic majority before this process to take place. There is nothing cowardly about a winning strategy.

13. Yes, then after we win, something else will come along to make us pee...
...our pants and run screaming from doing the right thing once again.

IMPEACHMENT is a winning strategy.

16. We just disagree, I guess.
I think impeachment is a winning strategy for Rove and we will see it revisited immediately prior to the election and we wont need to bring it up, they will.

17. Again, I hope they do.
The more talk of IMPEACHMENT there is, the more the Republicons get tarred with their own corruption.

19. Just found this, by the way...
The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), among other organizations, believes putting impeachment on state and local ballots would be a big winner for the Democratic Party this fall. That impeachment is far from unacceptable to the general U.S. population has been shown in several polls, such as a poll that showed a 50% to 44% majority of Americans answering yes to the question: “If President Bush did not tell the truth about his reasons for going to war with Iraq, Congress should consider holding him accountable by impeaching him.” But even more important than that are the very strongly held pro-impeachment views of a sizable minority of Americans, as evidenced by the creation of numerous pro-impeachment groups, rallies and demonstrations throughout our country, and even consideration of impeachment resolutions by the states of Vermont, Illinois, and California.

CCR has held and is continuing to hold impeachment teach-ins throughout the country, where they advocate putting impeachment on local and state ballots, explain the rationale for impeachment, and describe what ordinary citizens can do to further this effort. Efforts to impeach the Bush/Cheney regime are not only the right thing to do, and perhaps even a necessary step towards restoring our democracy, but I believe that they are likely to be of much value helping the Democrats to take back Congress in 2006.

23. "Several polls" is a lot different than one "unscientific online poll."
Including Ipsos and Zogby.

Neither a majority.

25. Of course the question is "if." Are you talking about IMPEACHMENT in...
...a vacuum??

And it seems to me that the last time I heard the "majority" versus "plurality" arguement, it was from a losing Republicon.

26. ?
The question requires evidence of wrong doing before impeachment. That requires hearings before impeachment can take place. That is what Pelosi has said when she discounted talk of impeachment.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/11/AR2006051101950.html
Snip>Seeking to choke off a Republican rallying cry, the House's top Democrat has told colleagues that the party will not seek to impeach President Bush even if it gains control of the House in November's elections, her office said last night.<snip
Snip>Democratic-controlled House would launch investigations of the administration on energy policy and other matters. She said impeachment would not be a goal of the investigations, but she added: "You never know where it leads to."<snip
Snip>Daly said Pelosi never considered impeachment a priority. Republicans "are in such desperate shape," he said, "we don't want to give them anything to grab on to." He said Conyers agrees with Pelosi's thinking.<snip

I have no idea what your losing republican comment means, or it's relevance to this discussion.

3. I sure hope so. Then we'll know for SURE that he's lost it.
Visualize IMPEACHMENT.

Then DO something to make it happen.

5. Perhaps you haven't seen the RW press coverage of '06.
You cannot make it happen if you remain in the minority. Why not visualize a Democratic win in '06? Then we have a chance.

HeadRush and Insanity using it to whip up their base is only RW coverage I've seen.

10. Did you think the Swift Boat Liars were ineffective also?
Corporate Media is RW primarily and I have seen them cover it and you can bet it will be back closer to November and this will feed into it. That is why I question if it is a tactic by Rove.

14. Do the right thing, win!
You don't have to show you hand, that is usually a losing strategy. If impeachment is our only goal we may not deserve winning. I would hope our goals could be open and upfront, bettering the lives and futures of the voters. Impeachment is just a small part of that. Impeachment is not the issue to win votes and has a greater potential to backfire than issues like health care and the resolution of the Iraq crisis.

15. Who said it's our only goal? It's justice.
How can justice "backfire?" This isn't about issues. This is about values. And in that context, health care, the resolution of the Iraq crisis, our Constitutional rights, and so much more are intimately connected to IMPEACHMENT.

...squarely on the shoulders of the perpetrators. Us? We're simply seeking justice for the American people.

They're both good Democrats and volunteering on the Casey campaign in PA. Let's give them a great 50th anniversary gift - impeaching the Pretzeldent!
