I need a forum recommendation...
Frequently, I have top posted something... longish... that I've posted on GD or GD:P forums which I was unable to find 15 minutes later because it got bumped off the front page by the 34 people who link posted at the same millisecond I posted.

Now I have no idea whether this is because of the volume of posts or whether my writing or opinion just genuinely sucks so badly as to not require comment. I'd like, when I do post longish stuff, to be at least sure that people actually did see it in the mound before it goes off the front page (a place that I like to call 'oblivion').

What I need is a recommendation for which forum gets decent 'click traffic' but moves at a slower, more sedate pace and accepts general commentary, including the political.

Any suggestions?

4. it might be time for the admins to split some forums up again...
...to keep posts from disappearing so quickly. The Greatest page helps somewhat in that regard, but sometimes posts disappear so quickly that the folks who might be interested in them don't get time to read them and vote before they're buried. DUs traffic seems to be increasing more rapidly all the time.

5. If you are writing on a specific subject
than you can put it in a forum, and hope that people are interested in it.

I will say that most DUers (including myself) want a quick fix) - if an article really grabs me at the outset or is about somethign I'm really interested, i'll finish it, but usually if something is more than two or three paragraphs long, I'll scan the first line or two then go back to the main page. Obviously not the reaction one hopes for.

If you really do have the urge to write longer things, maybe start a blog?

7. I've tried that already...
I just don't have the discipline to keep up with a blog, I'll walk away for weeks at a time. I just need a board that a post might stay on the front for half-a-day even if it isn't kicked up.

8. I see you have a star (which looks very good on you BTW) so take
advantage of the many topic forums at DU

there really is a place for posts in almost any topic and the "regulars" of the smaller forums usually have a special interest in that topic.

they lead to lively discussions without it falling into oblivion too fast

check em out. a couple of my favorites are "Energy/Evironment" and "Science" as well as cooking and baking, DIY and Precinct level Politics

explore and enjoy!

10. GD Politics moves at maybe 1/3 speed or less compared to GD
On Politics/Campaigns your thread will sit on the front page for weeks, but I'm not sure how many posters will see it.

6. It's not the writing it is the volume.
If it is passed 48 hours than do an advanced search on your name.

I can go quite a while before I get one reply to a post. I've got many of threads in the archive with no posts on them.

Oh well.

9. Try to keep it as short as possible for a while
You're new here and an unknown. So, keeping it short will get more eyes to read all the way through and possibly respond keeeping it kicked. In other words, put your best thoughts into only a few sentences.
