Investigative journalism needs your help NOW (DU to the rescue!)
I have no affiliation with Greg Palast whatsoever, other than being a huge fan and loyal reader.

More than any other individual, investigative journalist Greg Palast has been responsible for exposing and documenting the lie machine that took us to war, the theft of our elections, the class war waged by the world's rich on the world's workers and poor, and countless other issues that we would NOT EVEN KNOW ABOUT if not for people like him. Remember the story of ChoicePoint and their highly flawed scrub list to disenfranchise thousands of legitimate voters in Florida 2000? That was ALL Palast.

And now he needs help to keep his operations going. Investigative journalism costs money, which is why the mainstream media doesn't do it. While a hundred bucks or so seems like a lot of money, would you really miss it that much? And consider where it's going. The less material Palast and his team produces, the less we know about what our government is doing, and hence the less of a chance for change. Think of it as an investment in democracy with guaranteed returns. And if you can't give a hundred, then give less!

Don't do it later, do it now! It'll take, like, 5 minutes! And DUers can be the ones who kept this effort alive!

K&R the crap out of this post!

Reprinted from Greg Palast's latest email:

Ain't too proud to beg: The Palast investigative team is aiming to film and report four stories that will make the ruling regime deeply unhappy...

1. The untold story of the New Orleans flood.
2. Shoplifting your vote: November 2006 fix.
3. The next oil war.
4. (Confidential.)

Our problem is straightforward. We're out of funds. Dead out. All gone. In the red. Maybe we can sell our several journalism awards or return the beer bottles in the back office. Still not enough.

If you think this type of under-the-headlines investigation is important, donate at least $125 (tax deductible) to our not-for-profit foundation, the Palast Investigative Fund, and I'll send you, in appreciation, a signed copy of the audio version of Armed Madhouse, the New York Times bestseller.

More...We do old-fashioned investigative reporting: on the scene, under cover and research research research. While my reports have unique access to the world's most prestigious media outlets -- BBC Television, Harper's, The Guardian -- those good outlets and book royalties do not come close to covering our bills. Plus, we proudly present all our reports on Democracy Now! -- and wouldn't dream of asking Amy to pay.

Get the signed 5-CD audio version of my new book Armed Madhouse for $125
... or get a signed copy of the hardbound book of Armed Madhouse for $100

... or, become a Mini-Mogul:
Donate at least $250 to our foundation and get the Audio OR Book PLUS a gift pack -- and earn a credit at the end of our next broadcast as a co-producer!
You don't have to own a studio to see your name on the big screen. Be a miniature Murdoch who brings us the news instead of censoring it.

Hear a sample of Ed Asner, Jim Hightower, and Janeane Garofalo reading the audio book.
They are joined by Randi Rhodes, Amy Goodman, Mark Crispin Miller, Greg Proops, Jerry Quickley, Brod Bagert, Medea Benjamin of Code Pink, Randy Credico, Kevin Danaher, Larry David, Brad Friedman, Shiva Rose -- and Jello Biafra as the voice of Osama bin Laden.

Whether it's the audio book, the hardbound book or gift pack, you'll get 'ARMED MADHOUSE: Who's Afraid of Osama Wolf?, China Floats Bush Sinks, the Scheme to Steal '08, No Child's Behind Left and other Dispatches from the Front Lines of the Class War.'

"The story is like a spy thriller." (Robert Kennedy Jr., Air America.)

"A cross between Seymour Hersch and Jack Kerouac." (Buzzflash)

"Broke." (Our accountant.)

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your support.

7. He set the bar too high.
He'd have better luck asking for $10, and he'd get more contributors.
