Doesn't look like it will put them back in the garage they seem to reminisce so about but should rack up some civil fines.

Cupertino, California-based Apple will likely need to restate results to record noncash charges for compensation expense relating to past stock option grants. Apple said it had not determined the amount of the charges, resulting tax and accounting impacts, or which periods may require restating.

Apple also said in a SEC regulatory filing Thursday that all financial communications issued since September 29, 2002, should not be relied upon.

9. Those Of Us Who Were Awake During Physics
(And therefore own PCs) would recognize that that name is a play on Apple's "Rainbow Apple" symbol:
Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet.

7. Oops.
That's not good. Oy.

They are making some nice machines these days (I worked on our advertising department's dual-G5 tower awhile back, the insides of that machine are a work of art. Just gorgeously built.) However, I don't care much for OS X. I've been digging out an old beige G3 with OS9 on it. I'd almost forgotten how enjoyable that older system was to use. I still haven't seen a PC newsreader I like nearly as much as MT-Newswatcher under OS9 (the OSX version is good too). Funny how one of my favorite peices of software was a university professor's class project (John Norstad's original Newswatcher, from which sprang many variants). That old machine still feels pretty snappy, even though it's just a 266. Try Windows on a PII that slow...egads.

I'm mostly a PC guy these days, but I still have a soft spot for the old Macs (and my first Mac was easily the worst piece of trash ever to have a PowerPC chip in it, the Performa 6200CD. Arrgh what a poorly-executed disaster! I used the heck out of it though...)

12. my Plus from 1989 is still running ...
I dug it out this week to run some analyses on Systat 4.0, and it came through! I feel kind of inadequate even talking about System 6.0.5 when OSX is actually "old" these days ... but some of those earlier operating systems did the trick (even if you were running the system software off a floppy disk, which isn't really possible these days).

These days I have a G3 "Wallstreet" laptop that's a decade old -- I like how you can load up the ports with a battery, or 2 floppy drives, or a CD-ROM, or a DVD, or even a zip drive.

14. The Wallstreet is a classic laptop
Macs seem to have a long useful life, though PC's are starting to get that way (Pentium III's especially, you can load a P3 with Win2K and have a usable machine for almost nothing). But the Wallstreets were great notebooks...hang onto it, I bet it becomes a collector's item one day. :) My first laptop was a 1st-generation iBook, the blueberry one that looked like a toilet seat. I used the heck out of it, then gave it to a friend who needed a computer. As far as I know, it's still kicking. Heck, my wife's blueberry iBook is around here somewhere, it's shaky though...been dropped a few too many times. :( I should drag it out to see if I can fire it up...

15. especially the upgraded Wallstreets!
It's possible to get a working one for well under $100 these days, though likely the PRAM and main batteries have gone (in practical terms you run it off AC and get used to incorrect times on the internal clock, unless you shell out to replace those parts).

I did a little research, and while the basic 233MHz is the most common, it's drawn some criticism (see below site for "Road Apples" list). Though if all one needs it for is word processing and spreadsheets, it's okay. I lucked out and found one that had a faster processor installed. Another tip is to avoid the 13" screen models (there's a defective hinge that can sever cables inside the machine, which is what did in my first Wallstreet).

For people who are shopping around, this site is pretty informative:
http://www.lowendmac.com/pb2/g3series.shtml

There are some useful articles elsewhere on the site about the iBooks, too -- upgrading and repair hints, etc.

13. I'm not surprised. Those commercials are a bit misleading...
full of hubris too, but the one where they ham up the idea Macs are easier to plug'n'play peripherals into them had me laughing then gagging. When I got my Epson Stylus Photo 2200 printer 4 years ago, I had read a lot of comments by angry Mac users that they had problems... The users of a certain Sony digital camera whined a lot too. (I had no problems. And I don't even use a Mac. )
