Very British statement on the Israel/Lebanon conflict and the UN
"I'm confident that by tomorrow we'll be in a position to have discussions in the Council on a text which actually takes us forward," Britain's U.N. Ambassador Emyr Jones-Parry.

A position to have discussions on a text which takes us forward.

That is something.

1. Yeah aren't the Europeans great
That statement pretty much means "nothing is going to happen and the UN is next to worthless". I also find it interesting that British troops have been responsible for hundreds of innocents dying in Iraq and are now crticizing Israel for attacking a country that harbors people that actually attacked them. Last I checked, Iraq never did anything to Britian. Maybe there sould be a position-discussion-resoulition to move forward on hypocrite Europeans like Britian.

3. What has happened to the United Nations? Have cancelled meetings
on the war.

Forget differences to solve Lebanon conflict
    Agencies

United Nations, Aug 2: The UN announced on Tuesday that nations willing to contribute troops to help stabilize south Lebanon will meet after all, and Secretary-General Kofi Annan urged governments debating Lebanon's future to put aside their differences to solve the conflict.

The meeting, now scheduled for Thursday, was scrapped Monday after France said there was no point in talking about peacekeepers now with the war continuing between Israeli troops and Hezbollah militants.

France, which has been mentioned as a possible leader of a peacekeeping force, wants an immediate halt to fighting between Israel and Hezbollah to pave the way for a wider peace. The United States wants any cease-fire to be part of a package of simultaneous steps, including the deployment of peacekeepers Annan emerged from a breakfast with the ambassadors from the five permanent members of the Security Council _ Britain, China, France, Russia and the U.S. _ on Tuesday morning with the announcement that the troop contributors meeting was on. It will be chaired by the undersecretary-general for peacekeeping, Jean-Marie Guehenno.

Annan wants nations to lay the groundwork for a force, apparently so it can be deployed as quickly as possible once a political framework to end the fighting in Lebanon is settled.

"He did ask them to set those differences aside and move along quickly on the question of a mandate for the force and the formation of the force, and who's going to be able to give what and which countries will be able to contribute," his spokesman Ahmad Fawzi said.

Despite the meeting, diplomats acknowledge that sharp differences remain. ...

4. The world is tired of cleaning up the US Govt's mess and getting
dissed in the process, who blames them?

The UN should just move on and eliminate the US from their charter, contrary to popular belief we cost them more then we contribute.

5. Well, that's a good idea but there is a crisis in Lebanon. Israel has
again stepped up the bombing of Beirut. Just because the media has been ordered to step down their coverage of the dead, dying and suffering doesn't mean that it isn't continuing.

The UN needs to bring some resolutions to a vote even if the blood thirsty US vetoes them.

Why is the entire world fearful of Israel and the Jewish stranglehold?

6. They are not afraid of Israel they are afraid of the US (or US).
You have to remember that we play the divide and conquer the Willing and the Bribed. The world has not gotten off the US aid (bribe) infusion. It is funny that the most indebted country in the world would wield so much power, but we bribe countries with our worthless dollars.

We also have exported all the high tech jobs and personnel, so in about 10yrs the US will be old news. It's those damn nukes that scare everyone, I pray every night that the Lord give us the key to neutralize the nukes, wouldn't that be something?
