Boycott the New York Giants. Bad to the environment/dicks to handicapped
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 04:22 PM by DistressedAmerican
folks.

The New York Giants summer training camp is right outside my back door. I could hit them with a rock and a slingshot from my house.

Today I took a walk up to campus and walked through the parking lot where all of the players park. It looked like a freaking SUV showroom. It was obscene. Wall to wall Hummers, Yukons, Avalanches, Land rovers, Escalades, etc. All pimped out with sweet after market goodies out the ass. They are a global warning nightmare. Clearly they get paid enough to burn all the high priced gasoline they need for that smog fleet.

To add insult to injury, several were parked in the handicapped spots. That's right, perfect physical specimines that they are, they are so lazy that they will not walk the extra 20 yards.

Instead they had taken EVERY one of the 6 handicapped spots.

These guys are clearly inconsiderate pricks. Don't watch them or give them your money.

That being said, all pro ball teams probably act like this. Maybe you should boycott pro football altogether.

Just a suggestion.

1. What if some of them are handicapped?
Recovering from injuries, etc. If you can't walk, even temporalily then you are entitle to the space.

If any team should be boycotted it is the Green Bay Packers. They suck.

2. A football injury is not handicapped. No tags for that.
It is a legal status in this state. Injuries do not count.

5. Not even temporary status?
If you have knee surgery or a broken leg you really can't walk very far. Why should they have to walk when someone with a chronic condition gets the good spot?

A friend of mine had knee surgery and got a temporary hanger (here in IL).

I did look to see if there were tags. I assumed there would not be and I was not shocked to find I was right. Just plain rude to the handicapped.

As are the Jets (unfortunately). I don't know why they're New York teams. Personally, I feel it should be the NJ Giants and the NY Jets. Get the Jets the hell out of Giants stadium, because their asshat fans ruin it for us.

Also I live in paradise so I am reluctant to relocate.

All that said, I do think its shitty that players are taking handicap spots and would have no issues with a concerned citizen making a stink about it.

I just can't boycott the team, it would be like disowning a close relative.

While he may not be as progressive as you'd want (he's more a Mark Warner type), if he appeals to the Asheville, NC crowd, he'll take another seat away from a 'Puke incumbent, Charles Taylor. I'd support him, even though he used to be a Washington Redskin (and my pro football heart bleeds NY Giants blue, nyeah, nyeah, nyeah)

:kick:

Yeah, yeah, I know all about Lynn Swann, running as a 'Puke Governor candidate in Pennsylvania. Just another chicken for Colonel Sanders.

10. I wish they'd never invented handicapped parking spaces
Check out the malls at Xmas time; you'll be hard-pressed to find a single empty handicapped parking space. I've gone into malls thinking that I'd see other wheelchairs out and about, but I rarely see a fellow traveler.

When I was a young man in a wheelchair I used to put stickers on cars, fake parking tickets or wait until the owner returned to confront them. Now I'm a mellow old man who realizes that pricks will be pricks and there's no point in wasting time and energy trying to correct them.

I wish they'd put all the nice wide handicapped parking spaces out in the parking lot away from the building. This would make them very unappealing to the selfish pricks who "need" them. It's ironic, but the spaces are close to the building to aid those who have severe mobility problems, yet I'll see someone park there and then walk for hours around a gigantic mall.

Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 04:37 PM by DistressedAmerican
Clothed you could not tell at all. A woman pulled up and started screaming at he for parking in a handicapped spot (well displayed tag and all). She literally reached down took her leg off and shaking it in the lady's face screamed back, "Is this handicapped enough for you bitch?" I will never forget that scene as long as I live.

Just a cautionary tale for those that expect to see a wheelchair. Some of those folks with very real handicaps go under the radar.

45. There's handicapped, and there's handicapped
Maybe there should be wheelchair parking spaces (extra wide so we can wrestle our chairs out of our vehicles) and other disability parking spaces.

For instance, your amputee friend has no need of an extra wide space; she could just as easily park in a "regular" parking space and go shopping. I see people with temporary handicapped placards parking in the wide spaces all the time. Invariably it's someone who can ambulate (perhaps poorly), but has absolutely no need for the wide parking space.

Incidentally, while someone walking can park in any space and use it, I can only use the wide spaces.

17. Boycott American football; it's a cult sport that glorifies violence
Set your sights higher, lad. Ever notice that the rest of the world, which has readily adopted our basketball and baseball, doesn't see the point of American football? I say, bless their sensibilities. Our growing cultural isolation from the rest of the planet is perfectly compatible with the rise of American football, a sport that only a nation with a $500 billion defense budget could love. Too bad, on many levels; think of all the great athletes whose talents are channeled to this absurd sport. What sort of a World Cup team could we field if not for football? How many great baseball players will we never see because of football?

Football dominates at the high school, college and professional levels in this country, while the rest of the world is playing soccer and growing to love basketball and (outside of Europe and Africa) baseball. When you take the global view, it really is a marginal sport whose primary value is to illustrate how at odds our sporting culture is with the rest of the world. The rest of the world has a message for us: American football sucks.
