For the rapture to be true it would mean that we were all wrong about the nature of God to begin with and He really is a vengeful Deity looking to punish anyone unwilling to submit to Him. The idea of the rapture was built around the concept that all "non-Christians" will be left behind to suffer. The nut job fundies love that kind of thing because they get to think their God is just as hateful and cruel as they are.

I always tell fundies that if their God and Heaven are anything like they describe them, I prefer Hell.
