Meet the Press: Timmy Nails Lebanese Envoy?
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 09:44 AM by The Cleaner
Ambassador Nouhad Mahmoud of Lebanon, Special Envoy of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry was interviewed on Meet the Press this morning.

Timmy asked Mahmoud if he is in agreement with Nasrallah, and Mahmoud said yes. Then Timmy read from one of Nasarallah's statements where Nasarallah says Israel must be destroyed. When asked about that, Mahmoud simply said there are lots of ideas out there.

When asked why Lebanon hasn't disbanded Hezbollah, and why they haven't done anything about Hezbollah in their midst, Mahmoud said it couldn't be done militarily.

Okay, that's a good question. Why has Lebanon done NOTHING to reign in Hezbollah? It seems to me this whole thing would never have happened if that's what Lebanon would have done in the first place.

3. They are too afraid of Hezbollah
If they took on Hezbollah, it is hard to say who would win. He said disbanding Hezbollah was not part of their agenda, but I think they are just too afraid to say that it is.

4. Russert is no expert on anything. He was made "famous" with a child's
chalkboard. He should just stick with that.

6. The militarily superior IDF retreated after taking on Hezbollah on the
ground. Timmy didn't "nail" anybody or anything. It's also a war crime for a country to unilaterally enforce a UN resolution.

9. it was absurd, Tim was an idiot, did you listen to the answers?
the guy explained his government had only been in power a short period of time (1 year?) and that he didn't agree with everything Nasrallah said.

I don't know anyone in the world who I agree with 100% of the time.

Tim sounded like an uninformed bully, Mahmoud sounded intelligent. To let the Israel guy off and go after this guy (appears the innocent in this latest round) helps understand why they HATE us!

13. The West and the UN has urged Lebanon to . .
. . either disarm Hizbollah or ask for help to do that. Lebanon chose to ignore the probem as Hizbollah brought in thousands of missiles and set up launcing sites inside villages and between civilian homes in southern Lebanon.

Those missiles have no military value. They are only useful to terrorize and kill civilians. Why do you not see that as a problem?

Learn the facts before you give in to your preconceived beliefs.

15. I don't see that Lebanon had much choice
attack Hizbollah or ask UN to attack Hizbollah and piss off half your country and your neighbors.

It would be like us trying to do something to help people who are fighting the terrorists. that's how many in the ME see Israel.

Don't get me wrong, I think Hizbollah should be wiped off the face of the earth, together will all Islamists but I recognize that we went against Iraq in part because we thought it would be easy. Ha!

19. If Lebanon is powerless to control a . .
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 12:29 PM by msmcghee
. . non-Lebanese army within its borders - then Lebanon is not a state.

Israel is attacking an army that wouldn't be there if Lebanon was a legitimate state. The UN and the west offered repeatedly to help militarily oust Hizbollah from southern lebanon. Lebanon ignored and resisted those offers. Why?

Admittedly this US administration paid almost no attention while this was happening letting Israel assume the bulk of the burden which has added to the explosiveness of the situation.

The reality is that Hizbollah hold 39 seats in the Lebanese parliament. Lebanon tries to disavow Hizbollah - but Lebanon is Hizbollah for all practical purposes.

They made their bed and allowed Hizbollah free reign to establish military launch sites against Israeli civilians inside residential areas - and import thousands of missiles through Iran and Syria to arm those launchers. Now they wring their hands and say they are powerless to do anything. That's bullshit.

Sidebar: Does no-one see that Hizbollah kidnapped the Israeli soldiers and launched their missiles one day before Iran was to be confronted with a sensible EU plan to secure her nuclear ambitions? The whole ME is basically an out-of-control unmitigated disaster because of the total incompetence and ideological myopia of the Repuke administration. The radical Islamists are gleefully taking advantage of this at every turn. Israel is dealing with a mortal threat that wouldn't exist if Al Gore had been allowed to assume the office he won.

21. If you have an argument - state it.
Forget the arcane references to big documents. If you think something in there is relevant to this discussion - then state what it is. Otherwise your post is just smoke and mirrors.

As I said - if you have an argument to make - make it in your own words.

Your reference doesn't prove anything - any more than it proves that 9/11 was a PNAC plot.

14. Sort of like Israel. In the 18 years they occupied Lebanon, Hezbollah grew
Israel is destroying Lebanon, because Lebanon hadn't done what Israel couldn't do.

By the way, does the government we've set up in Iraq, recognize Israel?

Does Israel recognize Palestine?

Does Israel recognize the democratically elected, legitimate representatives of those they fight?

No they don't!

16. if Isreal who illegally occupied Lebanon and they couldn't disban
Hezbolah..with one of the most powerful militaries in the mid-east..

how the hell could the new lebanese government..when they don't have one tank..nor one helicopter??

its more passing the buck...

where was the US and Isreali support to the government of Lebanon since Isreal pulled out of their occupation of Lebanon??

if the so called good guys ( ha! USA and Isreal ) had helped the Lebenese..there would not have been a void for them to turn to Syria and Iran...

now i am not in any way an expert on the Middle east..but common sense tells you..

it was our failure..a huge failure ..and the failure of Isreal as well!

and never forget that our own government refused to even talk ..to try to help...

we just sent more and more bombs and military equip to Isreal..

the blood and carnage spilled today..has our name on it as well..
