Things to say when the Recruiters call for your kid.
For several years before and after my youngest son's graduation from high school, we started getting numerous calls from the various branches of the U.S. military.

I usually say, he's dead, he's in jail, he's gay, he's crippled, he's joined al qaeda or just a simple fuck off.

He's 22 now, and the calls have almost stopped, but not quite.

1. tell them he's a pagan, gay, democrat, cross-dressing bed-wetter
who is being tried as a mass-murderer in Oklahoma, but you will give them his address if they promise to get him out of prison.

3. "Not until these MONSTERS are out of office!"
would do it for me, but that's entirely hypothetical.

Chances are they'd hang up the phone secure in the knowledge that I am no lady.

13. tell them, "He's gay"- because they won't ask- and even if
it's not true that he's homosexual, he still is 'gay' at times is he (or she) not?

It's sad that those in the military who are 'gay', and who sincerely desire to BE in the military have to hide who they are, and can't 'tell' who they are without fear of losing their career- It's time for the military to stop playing childish games, like, "if I don't ask, and they don't tell me, then it isn't possible."-

I'm fed up with the way governments use childish word play to try and justify themselves- And it SHOULD come back to bite them in the rear.

My apologies to those who are Gay- I mean no offense, nor do I wish to trivialize, or minimize the prejudice, intolerance, and bigotry that you have faced, and continue to face. -

My son was threatened with a fine, or jail time if he didn't 'register' with the draft when he turned 18- (I was on public benefits, unable to provide for myself or my children at that time, and my husband was mia) he never sent in his ss #- I did, without his knowledge or consent- because I was afraid for him, and I will take the punishment if it ever comes to that- He turns 23 this week-

My youngest is 13. We are pacifists.-

My heart breaks for all who have lost their lives since * took control of this nation.- Both here, and all over the world-

peace-
blu

16. "Let me put him on the phone,"
Then you let your KID tell them he's not interested. Because as much as you love them, it is ultimately up to them what they do about joining the military. If you have shared your values with your kid and if your kid agrees with you, he'll be the one to tell them no thanks.

Borrow a page from Nancy Reagan: Talk to your kids NOW about it, not later. Role play it if you have to. Tell them "Just say NO."

Regards!

Laura
