What the hell are we doing fighting in Iraq
Alright, I know this was a catch phrase to get your attention, but here's my introduction to the question.

Prime Minister Maliki of Iraq comes here to address Congress and ask for more support. He condemns Israel. Put aside the merits of the Hezbollah-Israeli conflict for a moment, the Bush administration and a unanimous Congress has sided with Israel and condemned Hezbollah. Maliki comes here and says the opposite.

Bush says we should ignore Maliki's statement because he said it for the people back home, especially the Shiites. What will happen when push comes to shove with Bush and the Iranians. My conclusion, the Iraq war is a colossal waste of lives and money, even from Bush's perspective, even if he achieves the goal of handing Iraq over to this Shiite dominated government.

What a dope.

1. Even Bush and his cronies don't know why we are fighting...
in Iraq, their story changed so many times (9/11, WMD's, Saddam is a monster, etc.). The latest reason is to bring democracy to Iraq and stabilize the Middle East. Doesn't seem to be working.

3. They know EXACTLY why we are in Iraq, but they can't SAY it!
It's called getting more wealth into fewer hands. See also: obscene profits for General Electric, Halliburton, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, et al.

A lovely little sidebar to all this carnage is called keeping oil off the market. Look at the latest profit figures from ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips.

The hell of it all is, if President Cheney went on Terrorvision and said "Here's the deal: this war is all about making ME rich(er)," 32 per cent of Murkins would rise up chanting USA! USA! USA!

4. I agree with you, I was trying to show sarcasm in my post....
and I believe the reason and only reason we are in the Middle East is to control the oil flow, with Israel helping the Bush administration do just that.

5. Oh, I caught your sarcasm right off!
I am just UP TO HERE with all the scholarly analysis in Time, NewsWeak, US News And World Regurgitation, etc, where they waste entire forests of paper on this or that reason for these wars when they could FOLLOW THE MONEY and wrap everything up in six pages.

Thank you for this post, Missy M!

2. To establish a foothold in the ME
It's the start of their plan for a "new Middle East."

Now on to Lebanon, Syria and Iran. Oh wait - its already happening....
