TOON: Sunday's Doonesbury (Flag Burning)
As usual, a few recommendations to the Greatest Page so others can find would be appreciated. Thanks!

2. How Would You Dispose Of A Flag?
In the trash heap? Bury it? Will we have to have flag cemetaries for the number of worn out flags every town and city will have? Why is it the symbol has become more important then the people it's supposed to represent? We can have people living under a viaduct but they get all a tizzy if there is a flag in disrepair. We get all crazy over off shoring but why is it we have so many flags made overseas? Shouldn't that "sacred" job be carried out ONLY by Americans???

8. The proper way to dispose of an old flag is to burn it.
US CODE: TITLE 4 > CHAPTER 1 > SECTION 8 > PARAGRAPH K

The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

3. Not to mention that people like me...
will gleefully seek-out and enthusiastically document and report every instance of flag desecration to the authorities.

We'll flood the local police stations with reports of flag desecration until they are so overwhelmed that they'll have no choice but to abolish the law.

Because if they can't prosecute them ALL, then the law would get thrown-out on the grounds of unequal prosecution anyway.

14. Time before last, I sent a couple emails to my alleged Senators...
...asking these VERY SAME QUESTIONS...
Just exactly HOW will desecration be defined?
Once this is decided, the courts are going to be clogged with brazillions of cases of flag desecration...
good citizens, TFMs, outraged people who've Had Enough, people trying to get back at someone they don't like, people who have NO understanding of the abstract concept of 'minding your own business'...

I received a sanctimonious reply on how "...the flag was a Symbol, and how Conrad Burns would protect it." :eyes: :puke:

I loves me some Gary Trudeau...

4. Good Sunday morning, DUers! On the breakfast menu this morning:
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 07:14 AM by Hissyspit
Beef stroganoff (made with vegetarian Morningstar Steak Strips), wheat toast with red currant jelly and lemon-and-lime marmalade (from the New Forest, Hampshire, England), 3-minute eggs, Jordanian vegetarian stuffed potatoes, black tea and coffee.

Getting the 3-minute eggs just right is a little bit of a challenge.

5. Question: if bush dribbles
BBQ sauce on his flag lapel pin - is that desecration?

7. I remember when I was a kid,
they had a flag committee at our school that raised and lowered the flag. My teacher told me, if the flag touches the ground that we had to burn it. Would he be breaking the law now. He didn't burn the flag out of protest, I guess it was cleanliness.

There is the U.S. Code concerning display, treatment and disposal of the flag of the United States. The Code is a "code." It does not have the force of law.

11. Actually,
he did one almost exactly like this several years ago, when there was another blah blah blah about a flag-burning amendment.

Good on him.

12. Yes, and he did one in the 1980s.
Unfortunately, he keeps having to do these because the idiots who buy their way into Congress keep trying to pass an amendment that goes against several concepts ingrained in the Bill of Rights.

18. This is a hell of a good point...
I've seen quite a few flags on huge butts and draping over large beer guts to last me a lifetime. Now, will we all have to turn these folks in for 'desecrating the flag'? I mean, art to you, desecration to me, and vice versa.
Now about getting rid of all those Old Navy flag tee-shirts, will there be a government sanctioned depot to deposit those in when they are too shrunken to cover said big butts and beer guts??

:freak:
