American for this topic)

I will start--I just got a call from my brother, and my new niece is about to enter the world (on second thought, considering what she is coming into. . . .nah, still excited)

This one isn't mine personally--but, as we all know, sister DU'er RRR's daughter is now home--certainly some of the nicest news any of us got in this week filled with so much sad news.

I was able to attend a wonderful workshop on compassionate communication (yeah, I know. . . .)

One of my friends just found a competent person to work on her house, and we are all very happy with the results.

And my kitties are just as lovable as ever.

anyone else??????

1. I'm looking forward to my son's birthday on Monday
and I was grown up enough to ask him what *he* wanted to do on his birthday. lol

I'm listening to this great BookTV segment on "Dark Ages America" / Morris Berman. He's an excellent pulic presenter.

2. a young friend's birthday is also on monday--and she happens, very
conveniently, to be a Harry Potter fan--which makes presents a real breeze.

Happy Birthday to your son, and have a wonderful celebration!!

everyone is talking about "Dark Ages America"-- hope I get a chance to catch it on repeats.

Sorry, I can't think of much, but I hope others will. Excellent about RRR's daughter.

4. Nothing, I witnessed warfare, I have watched apologists post on my
favorite site burning with religious fervor. My last respite from the gloom is now filled with hate and invective from people who revel in their proxy's warmaking. There is no other way to put it, there is literally celebration at the unbridled slaughter of innocents.

As we have suffered, so now shall others suffer...

9. I hope that is over. I have this distinct sense of two worlds.
In one, there is everything that violence brings. In the other, there is dailiness. Oh dear.

5. I got to meet Governor Dean at a private fundraiser last night!!!!
Gov. Dean came to Fox Chapel for a fundraising event for Jason Altmire (PA-04 Dem. Candidate against Melissa Hart). Both Jason and Gov. Dean spoke some inspiring words and talked about how Melissa Hart has a 95% voting record with the hard RW leadership...she is the female Santorum.

Great turnout to raise cash for this race. I got to shake Gov. Dean's hand, look into his very blue eyes, and thank him for helping us in PA-04.

Jason Altmire for Congress!!!:woohoo:

6. I met and gave a gift to a world-reknowned author--
in the fiber arts world, at least. Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, the "Yarn Harlot," was here for an appearance and book signing. It was a great event, and she's a wonderful woman who I'd be happy to have over for a beer any time.

I also completed my goal for "Le Tour de Fleece," a spinner's event during the Tour de France. I ended up spinning over 3,300 yards of yarn in three weeks.

These may not sound very exciting to anyone else, but for me, this was a GREAT week.

17. hey--I grow tomatoes, too, and I know that is a big thing!! do you do
companion planting of marigolds, or garlic and onions around your tomatoes? that helps a lot. right now, I am waiting to see how some russian heirlooms that I planted are going to turn out--have no idea what they actually look like ripe, right now, looking a bit like oversized romas.

22. I've got a few marigolds near the tomatoes.
Maybe that's helping. We've had a weird gardening year in southern New Hampshire. It got warm really early so I got an early start, then it rained continually for about a month. The people who got their gardens in early are doing fine, but the people who waited for the monsoons to stop aren't. I've had problems with only a couple of bugs this year - flea beetles and cucumber beetles. Usually the disgusting hornworms show up, but no sign of them yet. Maybe they drowned.

13. a homecoming, rocks, taffy, homemade jelly
Our youngest son returned home from a 3 week stay with relatives in South Dakota. Not only are we glad he's home again, he's richer for the experience And he came bearing gifts.

Rocks found while out 'hounding' along the Cheyenne River

Pounds and pounds - a variety of flavors - of freshly made saltwater taffy from the Rushmore Mountain Taffy Shop in Keystone, S.D.

Jar after jar of preserves - purified honey, salsa, pickles, and homemade jelly from my husband's sister - chokecherry, red rhubarb, buffaloberry, wild plum, blackberry

23. I got flirted with by an attractive woman.
Means a lot to a balding 62 year old male. Alas, my wife wouldn't approve if I were to respond in kind.
