"Setting aside the promises of Gingrich's introduction, no reasonable person could expect scholarly inquiry from a man with a history of indulging in bombastic intellectual pretension and outrageous historical analogies: Gingrich once compiled a "required reading list" for fellow members of Congress; and on the eve of his great electoral victory ten years ago, the speaker-to-be told a reporter he was leading a "slave rebellion" against the Democrats who "run the plantation."

The Republican PArty opposed the MLK holiday, the Civil Rights act, the Voting Rights Act and the Equal Rights Ammendment. Now tell me, which party is the party of rights and which party is the party of privelidge and power based on the supression of basic human rights? And don't try the Lincoln was a Republican argument. That will not hold water.

31. Great, but now let's get back to Hillary's charges that this
is the worst administration in history! See, they zero in on a word, and send everyone scrambling to find proof that they did it too. They really don't care that we'll catch them. Their mission was accomplished.

Next time, ignore their crocodile tears, and zero in on the points made ~

...in this case, Dems when asked by the propagandists on television what they think of the Repub. charge about the word 'plantation', they should have said 'Actually, I am not thinking of it at all, Wolf. C'mon, you know that's just an old and tiresome, childish attempt not to address the real issues Sen. Clinton brought up.

Then launch into a filibuster of the crimes of Republicans, and don't let them interrupt, and if they do go 'No, wait, wait, I think this is what the American people are interested in, Wolf.

I am deeply concerned about the level of corruption in DC, and I'm surprised that Republicans are wasting time on a word instead of paying attention to what Sen. Clinton said, being that their party is now being exposed as having been engaged in corruption in numbers never before seen in DC.

... and keep going ....'There was Republican Rep. Duke Cunningham, convicted, and with more to be revealed in that case regarding defense contractors. We have the WH official, Republican, Scooter Libby indictment and others, like Karl Rove under investigation in the outing of an undercover agent. Then there's the Spy in the Pentagon case, with three Republicans indicted, one convicted, and further investigations into who else may have been involved in that crime.

Not to mention the extensive crimes and corruption being uncovered in the various Republican lobbyist Abramoff affairs, that seem to be spread across the nation, with Republicans everywhere now under a cloud for taking money from him, and even across the ocean, with his 'charities' turning out to be sniper schools in Israel, and sweat shops in the Mariana Islands, with even President Bush drawn into it' .........

They should use the word Republican every two seconds as they list the crimes ~ and make statements like 'and btw, Wolf, you know that not a single Dem took a dime from Abramoff'.

Dems need to practice if necessary. Never let them use their diversionary tactics.

Hillary's point has been successfully buried in the diversion, it should not have been.

36. I think it's too late. They jumped on the word, the media covered it
You're right, they'll change tactics now that they're caught, but who's going to cover it? The moment is gone. I think the 'corruption' should have been kept as the focus, and then go after their attempt to divert by slamming them with what Randi uncovered, but only as a 'oh, and btw, re the 'desperate' attempt by some Repubs to change the subject, they would do better to acknowledge what is happening to their party, and stop wasting the people's time on this trivia etc. etc.

Which is more important? To get the message Sen. Clinton intended to get out to the public while the short attention span of the media spotlight was shining on her, or to beat them over the head with 'you used that word too'? What will the audience remember about Hillary's speech, that this is the worst administration ever, or that she used the word 'plantation'?

To answer that question, look at what is this entire thread talking about?

This is a tactic they use over and over again, and over and over again, Democrats fall for it. We have to learn to stay totally on topic, like a lazer beam, no matter what they do, and the only way to do it, is to ignore their tactics and repeat and repeat the key words that will stick in the minds of the public, in this case 'Republicans' and 'Corruption'. Instead all we've heard is 'Democrats' and 'Plantation'.

I spent three years on a rightwing board arguing with them, believe me, this 'plantation' thing is classic rightwing 'change the subject' even if you catch them in a lie, it doesn't matter, the goal was to change the subject, and it worked. They understand how little time they have, and they pick and choose carefully, the soundbites they want to get out there.

Dean was great!! That's how it needs to be done. No wasted words, just facts, delivered with conviction. He didn't let Wolf get his talking points across at all. He slapped them down instantly and convincingly. Which is why Wolf ended up sighing as if to say to his handlers 'look I tried, but this guy was just too good'. What do we remember from that? Not what they intended ~ that it was a(key words) 'bi-partisan scandal', we rememeber 'not a single dime went to a Dem.' and 'This is a Republican scandal'.
