Coal Industry Coordinating Propaganda Blitz Attacking Global Warming Science
A secret memo by the coal industry details a coordinated campaign to spread misinformation about global warming. The memo expresses fear that if the government addresses climate change — through a carbon tax or regulating greenhouse gasses — it will cut into their profits.

Their solution: “support the scientific community that is willing to stand up against the alarmists.” (The memo also refers to people who believe in global warming science as those “whose true motivation is to stop growth, develop renewable resources(and) discontinue the use of fossil fuels, especially coal.)

But the coal utility ran up against a problem: there is no scientific community who agrees with them. The memo acknowledges almost everyone who disputes global warming science have no “involvement in climatology.” So they’ve decided to lavish funding on one climatologist who will do their bidding: Pat Michaels.

The memo describes how the coal-based utility contributed “$100,000 to Dr. Michaels this year.” It also “contacted all the in the United States” asking for contributions to Michaels’ research and “obtained additional contributions.” Here are a few highlights from Michaels’ career

- warmer winters, massive hurricanes, heat waves - what, do they think the world is getting cooler?

Hard to ignore the weather. I think that everyone who wishes to deny global warming should have their A/C systems and heating systems (both residential and automotive) disabled. After all, if it's not getting hot, and we're not having really disruptive weather, they should not need such things.

Give them 6 months. Then see what they 'believe'.

ChickenHawks - get them to put their everyday comfort against anything - war, global warming, war on drugs, etc... they'll wilt.

3. I think it's denial at this point

How many f'ing times do I hear -- It's normal in the history of the earth -- Not man.

Stupid asses. Seriously, if it could help, why not?

4. Not denial - simply the willingness to issues bald-faced lies for money

There are always people willing to illegally dump toxics (to make a few more bucks) or sweat labor to bust up old computers exposing themselves to toxics, solvents and carcinogens (to make a few more bucks) or willing to press 10-year-old Thai and Bangladeshi kids into sexual slavery (so that they can make a few more bucks) or, for that matter, to lie and lie and lie about matters which are no longer in dispute and which will potentially disrupt and/or degrade the lives of billions of people - provided, of course, that they can make a few more bucks.

It's just good old-fashioned venality, lightly frosted with frothy ideology and blind faith that if we're all allowed to be selfish without restraint, then everything will work out just fine!
