John Dean: "We have returned to the imperial presidency"
LOS ANGELES - John Dean, the White House lawyer who famously helped blow the whistle on the Watergate scandal that drove Richard Nixon from office, says the country has returned to an "imperial presidency" that is putting the United States and the world at risk.

...................

"Are we on the road to fascism?" he writes. "Clearly, we are not on that road yet. But it would not take much more misguided authoritarian leadership, or thoughtless following of such leaders, to find ourselves there.

"I am not sure which is more frightening," he adds, "another major terror attack or the response of authoritarian conservatives to that attack."

.....................

"We have returned to the imperial presidency," he said. "We have an unchecked presidency."

But he's nailed it again. Which IS more frightening? After another terrorist attack I picture the Democrats on the floor with their pants up and the K-Y handed to the Republicans. DAMN it! I'm starting to sound like Coulter. But that's the sorry state of our "opposition" party. They need to walk their asses out of there and demand our government back. Instead it will take forty years and a bloody revolution.

4. Bush needs more than a "rest"
he clearly needs to be challenged, we are definitely in a very dark place right now. We have no credibility and our standing in the world has been deteriorated. Bush is clearly delusional and suffers from a psychotic disorder. He is a religious fanatic, he is not too different at all from the Taliban, or any extreme religious group, and this man is pResident of US. He is NO pResident.

6. Here's something to give him the rest he needs.

One of these might be helpful, too.

3. I heard his interview on NPR yesterday (or was it this morning?).
His new book sounds like a "must read" and from what I hear is well researched - and frightening.

Independent in depth research, obtained from a vastly large sample with in-depth personal interviews indicate that 25% of the conservative movement are essentially fascists, and would prefer to see some sort of authoritarian/fascist government - as long as THEY are running the government. They don't even have an inkling of the concept of "what if the other side gains control". They operate on the concept that they will maintain control at any cost.

And these are bush*s "base".

To say they would make excuses for him if he were caught on stage sodomizing little boys in public would be an understatement.

Very frightening indeed.

5. very dangerous indeed
John Dean's Worse than Watergate was excellent also, after reading that book there is alot he said which is happening right now. This RW authoritarism is happening right before our very eyes. How long are we going to remain silent.

7. Put signs out in your yards asking for the end of this war.
Then let's ask for a new President. No one from Harvard or Yale. I'm tired of these college classmates running the country like a fund raiser.

10. They said it was very "easy" reading (not complicated to understand and
not difficult to get thru).

11. It's very good. But scary, because there are so many authoritarian
followers and they are so easily led with a little booga booga. They will follow ANYTHING their chosen leader says, no matter how nonsensical.

12. a suggestion..
if you can afford it..please buy several copies and give them as gifts to republicans you know..

sincerely..i just ordered 10 copies as i did with palasts book as well..

gave out the palast book to 10 rethugs i know..and i am getting incredible feedback..

9 of the 10 rethugs i gave it too have told me they are shocked..
they had no idea..

i asked them to do me a favor..read it and if you don't like what you are seeing now..do not vote..stay home and don't vote..

so far 4 of the 9 have said..they can't vote for a dem..they are "that" repug..i said well then don't..but don't vote..

because a vote for a rethug right now is a vote for fascism..

and those so far, who are concerned agreed..

just think if we get this book into the hands of rethugs who prob wouldn't buy the book and who are not really political..but just life long rethugs..think of the impact if we give them the book..and they stay home from voting..

they can't steal the election if so few vote..

and we don't hsve to force feed info they don't want to hear and won't listen to anyway..

but give them the gift of info..

even if you can only afford to buy one extra book and give it to a rethug you know..thats one more person you are educating..

just a thought...

and an added chuckle..

all the people i am around on my resort island are rethugs..and now when i walk on the beach ..almost all are reading " Armed Madhouse"..on their beach chairs!!

and they are discussing it!! among themselves..

thats more than i would have or could have expected a couple years ago!!

fly
