Does anyone else think that Ann Coulter is putting us all on?
I think that she goes out of her way to say the most outrageous things possible just to get a rise out of the liberals. All the publicity that she is getting from what she says is just helping her to sell more books. I don't really believe that she thinks that Bill Clinton is gay or that the 911 widows are celebrating their husbands' deaths. But when she makes these outlandish statements, it creates such a ruckus that everyone wants to see what she'll say next or how badly she'll get shot down. I'm sure that she's very conservative, but I don't think she believes half of what she says. She's laughing all the way to the bank.

30. Bingo. She is turning off a lot of Indies and moderate repugs.
If they're smart, repug candidates will start to distance themselves from her instead of giggling.

12. That's been in the back of my head, too.
Like it's some kind of massive post-modern joke she dreamed up on too many hits of blotter at a Dead show in the 1980s.

9. Obviously, she's a real character and I think that's her point...
I seriously doubt she believes 90% of what she rants about. It sells books. It puts food on the table and chardonnay in her gullet. She must have an amazing metabolism to drink that heavily and remain skinny. I would gladly give up my principles for evenings with Ann. Someone has to love the skinny girls! I'd maybe abandon DU for a while for a one-nighter, even. Maybe a few rounds at some heady DC bars. I bet I can out-drink her, though... :D

But seriously, that level of vitriol has to be a gag. There's no way anybody can hate THAT much and remain sane.

However, there are stories about FBI agents (true ones) that infiltrate the mafia only to change sides due to the allure of it all. There's a name for this, but it escapes me.

20. I think it's both
I think she believes most of what she says, but she says these things in such a crude way to get a rise out of us. Her saying Bill Clinton is gay is one thing I don't think she really believes, and said it just for shock value. She is quickly re-defining trash, I'll give her that much.

21. I think she may have started out that way
when she realized trashing her betters was a much easier gig than corporate law.

I honestly think she's gone around the bend now. Instead of the cruelty parading as wit that exemplified her first book, her writing has gone all the way over the top and she's degenerated into a caricature of herself.

Consider the disorganization of thought and laughably inaccurate footnotes in the book before this one. Now consider the vicious prose that has even her most rabid fans trying to back away from her even as they all secretly agree with it. This is not the writing of a healthy human being.

Whether or not she believes this stuff is beside the point.

If you look at the most outrageous statements she's made, she has correctly foreshadowed every Republican initiative, right down to the track down every muslim and convert him to christianity.

Ignore her at your own peril.

26. She's pullin' our chain...
...with her parody of neo-con fundy extremists. It's a big joke, it's making her rich, and we go for it every time.

Instead of reacting with horror(and becoming her unpaid assistants), we should egg her on. "C'mon Annie, that all you got? What else do you and your conservative friends think? Is that the best you can do? Yaaawwn."

Let's push her to be REALLY crazy and then hold her up as a "conservative icon".

I do know there are people who live with that much hate, day in and day out. Anger and misery is what feeds them. But regardless of how much she believes or not I think that as time has gone by people have kind of gotten used to her antics so she has to keep taking it up a notch so that she will continue to shock people or at least hope to do so. That is where the Clinton/Gore being gay comes from.
