Poll question: This time no death penalty; what sentences would you give Bush, Cheney?
I had separate threads last night for each, but folks were suggesting rather medieval tortures and death penalties and so it got locked. So let your imagination wander, but please no death wish suggestions, no torture recommendations, no fond wishes involving a large cellmate named Bruno. Keep it clean-- well, keep it within the rules, feel free to be as profane and obscene as they themselves are.

I suggest again that Bush have to visit the family of each serviceman killed in Iraq and apologize profusely for lying to get his war on. Plus about 40 years in prison, which is about how long it'll take for him to realize he did anything wrong.

Cheney? Uhhhhh, I guess we'd have to call that life in prison. With nothing to read but his wife's books.

I thought I'd be able to come up with a clever way to word a couple of responses such that they would give you the opportunity to say whether Chimp's or Shotgun's punishment should be the more severe, but that would pretty much have to be a separate poll. So maybe rather than post "HANG 'EM FROM THE HIGHEST TREE!" type responses, you may want to say instead whether Bush or Cheney deserves the longer sentence.

I'm not putting on an Other slot. We all know what Other would be. If you just have to express this sentiment, please restrain yourself to the "I can't answer this question or the thread would be locked" format, or start your own thread.

2. I chose "Life in prison, cleaning toilets" but I also think they should
have to do something to repay the people of America for the damage they've caused. The lives lost can never be brought back, but I think hard labor and acts of kindness to those who are in need of help wouldn't be too much to ask. I don't know how we'd ever put a value on what damage they've caused.

3. The Hague
let the court of world opinion judge them. If held here the neocons would figure a way to steal or rig the process.

Removed from office and ruin the entire Pug Party in the process!
I actually think it would be a worse punishment for not only Shrub & Cheney, but all of their cohorts in crime to have to "suffer" under a Democratic leadership of this Country for at least 50 years!

9. If we used the same standards in 1946, they'd all be hung or imprisoned
From the top leadership to the field commanders who either ordered or were negligent in the execution and torture of Iraqi detainees to the soldiers themselves who did the torturing and executing.

Nowadays, I would replace hanging with life imprisonment with no parole.

11. First, all their financial assets should be confiscated.
Then, they should be sent to Baghdad and made to clean up the streets. Without body armor.

Then, assuming they survive Iraq, they should serve life sentences for treason. With no parole.

16. This is just feel good, right?
Of course, no one here seriously believes that Bush and his cohorts will suffer anything like you're suggesting --so long as the U.S. remains the world's number one military power.

What I do think, however, is that if the situation continues to erode in the ME someone will make the first nuclear move. At that point, all hell will break loose and we'll all suffer the sins of Bushco. By now, millions and millions of us should have been in the streets protesting the inhumanity of what's going on.

I have an elderly father with dementia to take care of, so I haven't been out there actively protesting. That's my excuse. What's yours? While I think we DUers have great hearts, we'll need to lay our excuses aside and drum up some action that will grab the attention of our respective countries' leaders.

In short, we either band together in hordes or we will live only to rue the days of our inaction.

We are not special and God does not protect us. Given the right circumstances we could very well find ourselves experiencing the same sorts of thing as the Palestinians, Lebanese, Iraqis, Israelis, et al.
