Would the Dem Party survive ?
If we truly had a mulit party system here in the USA...

Many, many of us would not vote democratic if we weren't afraid that we would be throwing away our vote (basically voting for a Rethug) !!!

We truly only have 2 parties... the Dems and the Rethugs.. The way things are now there is no chance whatsoever that a 3rd party could ever win...

We must change the way the election process works to make 3rd parties more viable.. that will be the only real way we can get this country turned around from its hateful, greedy ways...

Currently all pols are controlled by Corporate money... they have to be, otherwise its impossible to get elected!...

Take for example, the issue of Health Care... If you polled the populace of USA you would find a large majority in favor of National Health Care...but did Kerry even bring the issue up in 2004 ? NO ! Not once ! This is because, ultimately he is controlled by corporate interests and has to obey his Corporate masters... (this example I got from Chomsky).

The pols will never vote to make it easier for another party... So how do we change things !

1. It would become the Centrist Party.
Deck chairs would be re-shuffled.

2. I'd vote for a party with balls...
- that took a clear position on the war in Iraq
- that took a clear position on gay marriage
- that took a clear position on our budget deficits
- that took a clear position on electronic voting machines
- that took a clear position on religious icons in public buildings
- that took a clear position against "warrantless wiretapping"\
- that took a clear position against Gitmo
- that took a clear position on the color of the sky...

Which, obviously, isn't the Democratic Party.

Bring on the choices!

3. It would be novel to actually have 2 parties.
Instead of the nationalist/capitalist party with "bad" and "not as bad" wings and the same corporate bosses. It would save wear and tear on noses.

4. Be careful what you wish for...
there is a big divide in our party, between the Lieberman "Dems" and the rest of us...you could get what you want.

5. The only way to mix things up where people actually voted for
a person and his ideas would be to do away with the classification of Dem or Repub. WIthout those misnomers, people might have to pay a little more attention to figure out who they want to steer their future.

7. That would kill the Democratic Party.
Only Republicans would have financial support, save a few savvy progressives.

6. The Democratic Party would survive
But it's like saying "if we had cheap cars that ran on Mr. Fusions, would the internal combustion engine survive?"

Frankly getting cheap cars that run on Mr. Fusion seems more likely than a genuine multi-party system - because none of the third parties are capable of holding peoples attention and because the system is set up to favor the two big parties.

8. And You Think If A Third Party Grew Large Enough They Too Wouldn't Be
controlled by corporate money? How narrow minded.

The Democratic Party would survive just fine, thank you. In fact, I'm proud to be a Democrat and the reason there isn't any real 3rd party yet is because 3rd party candidates thus far have been laughable.

9. My point is that .. if we truly
had a multi party system... our voices have a much greater chance of being heard and respected... As it is now, we don't really matter to either of the 2 parties.

Change would definitely occur faster, as we would vote for the party that speaks for the people... But first, we would have to change the electoral system... so that we don't feel as though we're throwing away our vote, if we vote for the party who seems to have the least chance!

Maybe you should open your mind, you might agree.
