MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has changed his political uniform from red to blue and is talking again about running for governor of Alabama, possibly in 2010.

"Alabama, that's my home. I'm thinking about running for governor; they need the help," Barkley said.

His decision was received warmly by Joe Turnham, Alabama's Democratic Party chairman, but with skepticism by a political observer.

"I say welcome Charles Barkley. Charles Barkley has been a Horatio Alger story for many people, not only in sports but in business and broadcasting," Turnham said Wednesday.

"I was a Republican until they lost their minds," he said earlier this month at a celebrity golf tournament in Nevada.

2. Sorry, I can't support egotistical celebrities running for office
Run for mayor first. Show us that a) you're serious about the political process, and b) you've got actual political experience. Being a pro-athlete does not qualify you to be governor, even if you tell me what I want to hear.

3. Until he actually makes his beliefs public, he can't be taken
seriously. I have no idea what he stands for. Though if he was a repub, then he is probably for tax cuts.

4. Reply to to 2 and 3
You are both in the rupukes back pocket. I watched my state and the south as a whole go repuke and guess what? No repuke every disrespected and Dem turned rupuke. You idiots are what is wrong with our party. You take a blessing where you can and if a rupuke star or politician changes affiliation and wants to run as a Democrat in any office we should celebrate.

The only way we are going to win back the south is the same way the pukes took it. We have to get our own back.

7. I don't believe I am in the repukes "back pocket".
:wtf:

All I am saying is that until he articulates his positions (he could be another Zell Miller type democrat for all I know), I will with-hold my final opinion of him. If he is more than a DINO, then he obviously will have my support.

And why the hell are you calling us idiots? We all have the same goal.

:wtf:

6. I've met the man on several occasions (in the '90s)...and he is NOT
the sharpest tool in the shed.
This trend of celebrities confusing name-recognition with ability is WAY outta control.
Reagan, Ahhhnold, Swann..our democracy can't take much more.
