I only wish I could be sure Katie and Matt and all the morning clowns actually saw the bit. And understood it.

4. I love how they criticize Colbert
for making a politician look foolish, especially Westmoreland, by asking a relevant question. Then they laugh, why would someone go on a show where they risk being made to look a fool. How dare he not try and prop up their guests and ask a difficult question?

7. He seemed genuinely angry that they tried to turn it into an emarrasment
For Wexler, and for comparing him to the idiot who couldn't name the commandments. He did the entire segment out of character.

10. That's what I was thinking
He was about 90% out of character the entire time especially at the end when he told people to vote for Wexler.

It's incredible to me that the media can't see the difference between Wexler and the 10 Commandments guy. Wexler got the joke and played along with it. The 10 Commandments guy got busted on something he should have known and that other proponents of putting the 10 C's up everywhere SHOULD be asked by the "real" media. Colbert sitting there with his hands raised, counting the number of commandments he could name (and only showing 3 fingers), was hilarious, but it got the point across better than anything the media could come up with.

25. Yes, you're right, but what's the excuse for Lauer et al.?
Edited on Thu Jul-27-06 01:47 PM by spooky3
These are people who are among the privileged in society, who have received a lot of natural gifts and societal advantages such as good educations.

You would think that they could make some of the distinctions that Colbert has painfully had to point out in very simple terms.

Unlike many DUers, I generally like Matt Lauer, or at least the nice guy that he appears to be on TV. I would like to think he is not so Rethug and/or foolish, but...

18. "This show IS the news"
Yer damn right. Because there's NO fucking news on the networks or cable channels.

I have said this hundreds of times, but one more won't hurt: How sad that we have a media that plays second fiddle to a comedy show when it comes to dispensing truth.

The Colbert Report is the best thing to happen to television as long as I've been alive.

21. You know Colbert must have been pissed when he realized
that Wexler could potentially be made to look bad for talking to him. I'm sure he wanted to set the record straight ASAP. As soon as I saw Wexler's story hit the Yahoo news page I couldn't believe it. This is what we've come to.

I didn't stop laughing for days after he was on.

I love how Colbert defended him and made fun of the other shows.
