Did I just hear this right? Repubs want Maliki to speak to Congress
because they want to showcase all the advances that have been made in Iraq? (Ahm, was I just inadvertently put on drugs or did anyone else hear that as well?)

It was just on Anderson Cooper on CNN.

Ahm, he said the Repubs need this for the midterms.

OMFG! LEt me get this straight. The Democrats don't want Maliki to speak because he didn't condemn Hezbollah and may not attend the speech. The Repubs want him to speak because he has such cheery and good news about the occupation in Iraq.

This really is bizarro-world.

Democrats decry Maliki's comments on Israel

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. congressional Democrats expressed alarm on Tuesday over Iraq's denunciation of Israel in the Middle East conflict, and some said Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's address to Congress should be canceled unless he apologizes.

A group of about 20 House of Representatives Democrats sent a letter to House Speaker Dennis Hastert urging the Illinois Republican to secure an apology from Maliki or cancel the address on Wednesday to a joint meeting of Congress. Some said they planned to boycott the speech.

Hastert's spokesman, Ron Bonjean, said there was no intention of canceling Maliki's speech, and he accused Democrats of "political gamesmanship during an election year."

Iraq's U.S.-backed government denounced Israel's raids on Lebanon and Gaza. Maliki last week called for "the world to take quick stands to stop the Israeli aggression."

Senate Democrats in a letter to Maliki called his statements "very troubling" and asked for an explanation, but did not demand that his speech be canceled.

3. Hastert's guy said it was political?
OMFG! How could the Democrats do this, how could they be political about stuff like war and terror and death and stuff.

Hastert's surrogate said, "he accused Democrats of 'political gamesmanship during an election year.'"

Hastert couldn't talk at the moment. He was at the White House trying to get the Prez to raise the terror threat level to '04 levels and could not comment directly.
