Polly Klaas killer hospitalized for OD
Polly Klaas killer hospitalized for OD
Peter Fimrite, Chronicle Staff Writer

Monday, July 24, 2006

(07-24) 13:51 PDT -- Death Row inmate Richard Allen Davis, who kidnapped and murdered 12-year-old Polly Klaas in Petaluma in 1993, was found unconscious in his San Quentin Prison cell Sunday night and rushed to the hospital, authorities said today.

Davis, whose crime is largely responsible for California's three strikes law, overdosed on opiates, according to prison spokesman Vernell Crittendon. It was not clear Monday whether it was a suicide attempt or an accidental overdose.

The drugs are believed to have been obtained from an outside source, probably during visiting hours, Crittendon said. Prisoners, he said, "are still allowed to visit with their loved ones."

Doctors revived Davis, who Crittendon said was back in his prison cell Monday "doing fine."

The fact that he molested and killed a child has made him a target inside the prison, where the unwritten moral code mandates a violent death for such offenders. He has been assaulted and spat upon by other inmates at least three times and is well aware that any prisoner who gets a chance will try to kill him, prison officials have said.

1. Yeah, right...he got it during visiting hours. What utter BS.
This is a guy in maximum security. Do you really think visitors are going to be able to smuggle things in? :eyes:

California prison guards are really something else.

Exactly--either they're that incompetent or that complicit.

2. I hope he dies
And if he doesn't I hope the other inmates will keep on trying. Or maybe he will die in prison of an "accident". Yeah, now that I think about it, that would be more efficient.

17. How's this Freeper?
I'm totally against the death penalty -- I didn;t wish him dead. On the contrary -- I want him to live a long, long tiome... in pain, and terrorized by other prisoners.

After what he did to that child, it's a light punishment.

12. Why is this fuckhead still alive? Should have been executed immediately.
Since it's "barbaric" to give him to the family to do with as they see fit. But no, he's in protective custody, just like all the other pedo murderer scumbags. If they aren't going to execute him he should be put in gen pop to fend for himself. There is no justice.

13. having read all your responses, gotta ask you all...
why did this guy do this? what benefit did he derive from his monstrous crime? is it the same pleasure those who advocate torment/suffering for the guy are also after(?) we live in a very corrupt, brutal, self centred and phoney society - does this davis guy simply subscribe to the same logic as junior bush and his ilk who you can see every time you watch foxnews or hear when you listen to russ limbah-humbug?

22. I grew up in the SF Bay Area
The Klaas killing happened when I was in high school. There was considerable fear at the time about random kidnappings like what happened in this case.
