I don't understand it, I really don't. My mind just won't go there.

I hope the authorities catch these scum-sucking excuses for human beings and that they spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

Folks, keep a watch over your elderly relatives and neighbors because there's always some low-life jerk who will be more than willing to take advantage of them!

Old lady imprisoned, robbed
2 suspects allegedly blew $300K, then blew town

BY PATRICK CROWLEY | ENQUIRER STAFF WRITER

FORT WRIGHT - Most of the residents of the tidy Fort Wright ranch-style home at 309 Hazelwood Drive apparently lived pretty well.

They relaxed on a large leather sofa, in front of a plasma-screen television. They lolled in a hot tub installed in the master bathroom. They barbecued on a $900 stainless-steel grill and drove a 2003 Cadillac Escalade SUV.

But tucked away in a windowless corner of an unfinished portion of the basement was an 85-year-old woman who authorities say was confined to a hospital bed, deprived of her medication and rarely taken outside.

And because the woman suffers from what a prosecutor described as dementia, she didn't even know that her life's savings were being drained to make others comfortable while she suffered....

1. In the words of Bruce Springsteen
How can a poor man stand such times and live.
Adapted by Bruce Springsteen

Well, the doctor comes 'round here with his face all bright
And he says "in a little while you'll be alright"
All he gives is a humbug pill, a dose of dope and a great big bill
Tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?
He says "me and my old school pals had some might high times down here
And what happened to you poor black folks, well it just ain't fair"
He took a look around gave a little pep talk, said "I'm with you" then he took a little walk
Tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?
There's bodies floatin' on Canal and the levees gone to Hell
Martha, get me my sixteen gauge and some dry shells
Them who's got got out of town
And them who ain't got left to drown
Tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?
I got family scattered from Texas all the way to Baltimore
And I ain't got no home in this world no more
Gonna be a judgment that's a fact, a righteous train rollin' down this track
Tell me, how can a poor man stand such times and live?

Sometimes the more we have means the less we are worth.

2. Hateful, greedy people.....
You just described the * administration. I thought that's what the article was about. People who voted for * also suffer from dementia, and now our country's resources are drained.

4. Only in this case we're talking about trillions of dollars misappropriated
Edited on Sun Jul-23-06 08:23 AM by leveymg
It went to buy fifth or sixth megamansions in Aspen for defense/homeland security contracting executives, million dollar motor yachts, private jets, all the trappings of splendid excess and reward for a life of crime.

When this national nightmare known as Bush-Cheney is over, there's going to be a huge accounting.

5. Oh yes, I don't disagree
This particular pair of parasites are but a mere microcosm of everything that's gone wrong with our society, one where greed is good, war is peace, and people are judged by how much they have and not by their character.

‘Be on your guard against all kinds of greed’, says Jesus, ‘for a one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.’

How sad that in a nation which constantly flaunts "Christian values" one of the most basic of Christ's teachings -- and one which he espoused over and over again -- seems to be so ignored while hateful men who embody the antithesis of these teachings are worshipped by the Christian right and hold the positions of power. Wealth and the accumulation of wealth is the idol worship of America.

3. I have known people who have gotten rich doing the very kind of
things you're talking about!

I was sickened by it too. What sorry things one can do in America and still remain a "Well Respected Man" is astounding to most people. Predatory "DO GOODERS," are making a killing, on the dying. They always have and they have done it all with our government's blessing.

8. Me too, Flottz
...and some of them were wealthy lawyers who had the confidence of their elderly clients. Greed knows no bounds nor class. We have only to look to Pennsylvania Ave to realize that.

6. It's Called Compartmentalizing
They just shut off one part of their brain and try to use another part. Amazing, isn't it?

7. Yes, but how do they do it?
Seriously. Is it due to something gone awry during a crucial part of the brain's development? How is compartmentalization to this extent explained? Is it a failure of upbringing? What's the difference between this kind of behavior and that of a sociopath? I really don't get how people can do this and I'm trying to understand but my mind just won't go there.

9. Are you a female or male?
Not to manbash, but I find this is very easy for men. I do believe it is biological. I think sociopaths don't think about right or wrong at all. I think those who are able to compartmentalize are able to put what they don't want to think about away. I imagine in some way it is a coping mechanism.
