College Democrats sound a lot like the 1960s British rock band, the Animals, who sang - ``I'm just a soul whose intentions are good, please don't let me be misunderstood.''
While a tangible sense of optimism was evident Friday at the three-day College Democrats National Convention, several students expressed frustration, saying voters simply don't understand the Democratic Party and its priorities.
Many of the 400 in attendance were upbeat about the party's prospects in the midterm elections, especially with polls showing a preference for Democratic candidates. Several were optimistic about the presidential race in 2008, with a few singling out former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., for praise.

While most students said they approved of the party's leadership in Congress, Kris Stallard said they are too timid when it comes to standing up for the party's core beliefs.
``I don't hear them getting up and talking about what the Democratic Party is really all about. We're using (Republican) language to describe our ideas, and of course that doesn't work,'' said Stallard, 23, a senior at Northeast State University in Talequah, Okla.
