Dan Rather must be rollin' his eyes : Katie Couric
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 08:50 PM by Sam Odom
Katie Couric, who takes over the CBS Evening News in September told Access Hollywood that at this point, she would not venture into the Middle East hot spot.

"I think the situation there is so dangerous, and as a single parent with two children, that's something I won't be doing," Katie said.

6. Would she have gone to New Orleans last year like Brian Williams did??
I thought Brian was a total lightweight until I saw his excellent reporting from NOLA in the maelstrom of Katrina. He goes where the news is, and that takes courage.

15. I've already decided that CBS jumped the shark and isn't worth
the time. I have also quit Nightline, it was hard and took awhile, but, jeesh what a waste of air time. I bet the networks still haven't figured out why they are tanking even further, they need to hire a rocket scientist!

Except for the fact that there is actually news hidden in Cordry's "live" reports. Never mind.

10. You gotta love or hate that CBS Evening News article
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 09:05 PM by SimpleTrend
is available on a site emphasizing its entertainment value.

Why won't CBS Evening News carry reliable Middle East news? Oh, because the anchor won't go there to cover it. That takes the pressure off the * administration and the corporatists involved in censorship.

14. That's a low blow for single mothers, Katie
It makes single mothers seem less competent for their jobs. Most single mothers don't have a damned choice about their job duties. You're spoiled , Katie, and damage those who aren't as lucky.

20. I don't know why she got the job
(or if she started it yet) but I think that is a fine decision. An anchor doesn't need to be in the midst of the action to do their job...it isn't their main job.

I'd respect anchor/reporter/journalist's decision not to go to where bombs are dropping or winds are blowing and water rising. We need people there to get a better idea of what is happening (what if no reporters had been in NOLA) but there will always be people who really want to go.

Bob Woodruff has young 4 kids (though there is another living parent). I'm not sure what level he or his camera man have/will reach in their recovery but could anything we might have gained from his reporting there be worth the price he paid for going to Iraq?

Honestly if she did go I'd wonder why a single parent was going myself.

If someone signs up as a roving reporter, a war correspondent and then says no they should get another job. I hope no reporter is in a place like that who doesn't really, really want to be.
I can't support Katie being an anchor but I think her decision is fine, even if she wasn't a single parent. An anchor anchors...it even sounds like a job where you stay in place!

you see the difference between infotainment and real journalism. Couric sounds like a prima donna.

25. I have to agree Christiane Amanpour is an awesome reporter
especially in the ME and she would be well worth watching on whatever station employed her. I am kinda warming to Lara Logan, but time will tell.

I have absolutely, no desire to watch Katie, she is so superficial.

22. Katie Couric is not a journalist but just another stooge for
corporate media to support the administration. Look at the interview in late January of this year with Governor Dean about the Abramoff scandal. Perky made a point of contradicting the Governor saying " Hey, wait a second. Democrats took money -- Democrats took money from Jack Abramoff, too, Mr. Dean". And then Katie follows up with " Well, we will obviously have to look into that and clarify that for our viewers at a later date."

Well she and her cohort Matt Lauer "clarified" the next day saying,
" Katie pressed him on that, and then we -- we did some research. We went to the Center for Responsive Politics and we found out that, technically speaking, Howard Dean may be correct."

Perky didn't even appear during the clarification segment. Journalist? Anchor? Nah, just another administration stooge.

27. Well I hope she stays out of Disneyland!
Summa those rides could go off their tracks and hurtle right towards her, or she could get sideswiped by a big furry animal with poor peripheral vision, or sumthin.

She should also stay away from petting zoos and other terrist targets.

In fact she should just be rolled up in bubblewrap and fed through an IV so she doesn't accidentally choke on her food.

Won't somebody pleeeeeeez think of Katie Couric's children?????

29. Sooo..she is stateside for the rest of her career??
Cuz there are not too many safe places nowadays...let's see, she shouldn't go to the UK---subway bombing...don't go to Spain or India--train bombings. Can't go to Iraq or Afghanistan, for obvious reasons.
Not S. Korea or anywhere else remotely near N Korea. Guess we won't see her in any post-hurricane areas here in the states, given what we saw in the Gulf area last year. And she probably should not have come to Dallas when she did her little listening tour last month--we are at the top of the list for highest crime cities, you know (seriously, we are).

Basically, CBS hired a talking head who gets to sit behind a desk..never to leave the desk. Zzzzzzzz.

Think I will stick to real reporters like Brian Williams and Anderson Cooper <and the other NBC, CNN reporters who we've see in the hot spots around the globe>.

I'm a single mom myself. Her cop out excuse is embarrassing to single moms, IMHO.

Her attitude reminds me of those single celebrities who try to boo-hoo about being a single parent and the responsbilities that come with that role---you know the ones...with nannies and entourages/$$$ to meet their kids every need. No sympathy for any of them...at all.

32. So?
I don't get why an anchor needs to go over there anyway. For that matter..why any reporter has to be put in the worst of situations.

Don't like Katie? fine.. but on this particular situation - I don't blame her and it's not really necessary for her to do that to do her job of anchoring the news. If she was a field reporter - then yes - she should go. As an anchor - not necessary.
