about killing (once again in the name of US, the People Who Never Elected Him) hundreds, even thousands, of individuals from Death Rows across the country!
I've never seen fundies so exercised as when they are ranting about "saving innocent life" -- and when they are talking about embryos, mind you, the ones NOT yet implanted in a uterus so they cannot even begin living. Oh, I almost forgot: except I have seen the fundies just as exercised, excited to the point of being downright giddy, on the subject of protecting innocent lives when it comes to the death penalty!
But-but-but.... they say, those are all vicious criminals who are GUILTY AS SIN of horrible crimes!
Well, maybe. Some of those executed are no doubt guilty of horrible crimes, I won't argue that point. But does even this fact justify the state killing coldbloodedly in the people's name? When so many of the citizens of the United States of America have expressed their belief that it is WRONG, indeed it's a SIN, to take the lives of even murderers, when it's just retribution and revenge, not "justice," is it right to carry on with the slaughter anyway?
And most important of all regarding this particular group on Death Row is the "oops factor." For there are times that have been documented -- and many more that cannot be certainly assured but are very likely -- when the death penalty was carried out upon an individual who was NOT GUILTY of the crime for which s/he was convicted!
In other words: "Innocent Human Lives"!
Last time I checked, there were at least 32 known, documented, and certain cases where innocent people were executed in this country. That was as of several years ago; it's very likely in this day of DNA evidence freeing quite a few innocent people who were scheduled for execution (or at least life in prison) that the number of innocents killed by the state hasn't increased a lot more thanks only to diligent citizens who fought for the DNA evidence to be examined in old cases now that we have the technology to do so.
Weren't several hundred executions carried out in Texas during the criminal pResident's terms as governor there? The odds would have it, then, that at least one or two of those people killed in the name of us, the citizens, were wrongly convicted! So when Dumbya refused requests by these people for mercy and a commutation of their sentences to life in prison (without parole), or even requests for only a temporary stay of execution, he was in effect directly responsible for the taking of innocent lives. Just like in Iraq and elsewhere, he killed innocent people!
Not embryos, not tissue, not cells -- PEOPLE.
While those citizens of real moral conviction and courage lit candles and stood outside the killing chambers protesting such cold-blooded and unjust executions, fundies just like Chimpy also gathered neaby to hold up signs expressing their GLEE at having another killing by the state carried out. Yeah, sure, these people want to encourage "a culture of LIFE"!
One other point on this topic:
I believe it's logical and fair that no Bush family member should ever receive the benefit of disease cures or treatments derived through stem cell research which our pResident has fought at every turn and tried hard to block every way he can. This subtopic alone probably deserves its own thread, but the extreme heat in OK is crashing my computer so often lately that I can't use it except for (when I'm lucky) a couple of hours a day. And that's in the middle of the night, like now! (It is 88 degrees at 4 a.m., for pete's sake! But of course there's no global warming happening, either....)
Since the heat prevents my responding to posts in a timely manner in a thread I originate, I'm able to mention this last point only in response to another person's OP on this overall topic. But I feel it's a very important point, nonetheless! NO CURES FOR THE BUSHES! They don't deserve to benefit from a research process they have tried to block!
