He Vetoed it, They gave him a Standing Ovation.
Just witnessed it live, Bush using his first veto, against funding for stem cell research, the whole room stood and applauded loudly with hoots of yeah, and repeated clapping.

Who are these people? Oh yeah, the base.

1. Which room? The people in the room you were in, or the one he was in?

5. Sorry, I'm nowhere near a TV...
...I thought if he was formally annoucing a veto that Congress people would be the ones he'd announce to and why would they be applauding his veto over them, but of course he can announce his veto in any room in front of any handpicked audience he wants. Brainfart on my part.

2. I wonder what the average American is thinking right now,
you know, the ones who have family members with Parkinsons, or a friend who is paralyzed from an accident, or a neighbor's kid who has juvenile diabetes.

11. This veto sums this bastard up perfectly
Doesn't use it one time in six years to curb the out of control spending that is bankrupting our nation, yet when he has a chance to sign a bill that could lead to wondrous medical advances which could possibly play a central role in healing all sorts of now permanent life-crippling afflictions, he vetoes it. Pro-life my ass. What a motherf-ker he is.

22. Not ALL prolifers were againt this SS research bill!
I personally don't have a story to tell in support of SS research, but I think it's really stupid to destroy the unused and unwanted embryos in the invitro clinics just because you don't want them to be used for anything but making babies! They NEVER WILL!!!!! They're going to be DESTROYED!!!!! For God sake, some people save the waxed paper from inside the cereal box to wrap things in, many use margernie containers for refrigerator containers for leftovers! It's called lessening destruction. Find an alternative use for things instead of just tossing it out!

Both my idiot Senators voted against the bill, and I intend to write to them today and AGAIN tell them how disappointed in them I am! Unfortunately, neither is up for reelection this year!

13. I'm thinkin' the Pubs are going to pay a price for idiot son's
decision. I wonder if the House & Senate will be able to muster enough additional votes to over-ride the veto?

4 Senators doesn't sound like a lot to me, but I understand they need 50 in the House.

There are a LOT of people who are going to be very upset about this veto. I know he's trying to hold onto his base, but it's dwindling!!!!!

20. I bet he's so pleased with himself he just wet his pants.
Can his pandering be any more obvious? And what's the matter with those people in the room? I don't begrudge them having children the way they did. But I do begrudge their attitudes and their hyprocracy. "I'm pro-life", and yet they totally ignore the fact that this asshole "President" lied us unto a war, over 2,500 of our military men and women are dead, and who knows how many Iraqi civilians. Oh yeah, real "pro-life" there, folks. I'm disgusted. Just disgusted.

But, it's just another example of how Bush pays absolutely no attention to what the majority of Americans want. If the Republicans don't override his veto, then I hope their constituents give 'em hell and then some.

26. Congress FINALLY passed that bill. CONGRESS represents THE PEOPLE
of this country and that rat bastard just vetoed that bill for that FUCKED UP 20% of RW religious wacko nut job base of his. He's going to pay for this at the polls. The repukes are FINISHED. I suspect the ONLY reason any repuke voted for it was because they knew the rat bastard would vrto it. Same old game with other people's lives. This is the ONE GOOD THING TO COME OUT OF THIS CONGRESS and he vetoed it. Figures, doesn't it?:grr:

27. The only silver lining
I can see is that this will come back to bite the far right in November. With a clear majority of the country in favor of easing restrictions, this will add to the fire and bring out the vote against the Bush disciples in November.

One example of many I can think of is in MI, where Governor Granholm urged Bush not to use a veto and has also called for a repeal of Michigan's ban on stem cell research. Shockingly, her Republican opponent, Dick DeVos, is strongly against stem cell research and has given a ton of money to Right to Life groups who oppose also oppose it. This should help her on election day and add to the negative ties between Bush and republican candidates.

Also, hopefully this is the nail in Rick Santorum's coffin, I can't listen to another word from him.
