Evidence of cop torture found
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/coptort19.html

Chicago Police officers under former Cmdr. Jon Burge were guilty of torturing confessions out of suspects in the ’70s and ’80s, but the statute of limitations bars their prosecution, a report by a special prosecutor “regrettably” concluded Wednesday.

“It is our judgment that the evidence in those cases would be sufficient to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt,” the report said, but added that “regrettably” there is no way to “avoid the effect of the statute of limitations.”

Not all the accused officers were guilty of abuse but Burge was, said the report by the special prosecutor, retired Appellate Justice Edward J. Egan and his deputy, Robert D. Boyle.

“It necessarily follows that a number of officers serving under his command recognized that if their commander could abuse persons with impunity, so could they,” said the report, which concluded a four-year, $7 million investigation.

1. Not suprising, and sadly this is probably a practice that hasn't ceasd
Chicago cops are as notorious as LA cops for their brutality, both back in the day and now. I'm hoping that the special prosecutor doesn't limit his investigation to the remote past, but also investigates what is happening in the here and now.

3. There's gonna be war here in Chicago
First we have that nitwit John Stroger, who is now pretty much braindead, pass on his job to his punk kid, and now this. I see racial KABOOM. There are a lot of nuts here, including many on the PD, who defend Burge and his tactics. Sorta the "no worse than college hazing" approach. Like in my college, they always attached crank telephones to guys' genitals. It was a real laff riot.

4. A Chicago detective who used to be a friend of mine explained to me...

...that all the innocent people who were tortured "were all shitheads anyway."

I haven't spoke to him since.

5. And Burge continues to collect his pension in FL
And the CPD will not revoke it. It will all just get shrugged off. I do not have the words to express how angry this makes me.
