Two words about Hezbollah's "Just", "Reasonable" demands: Samir Kuntar.
http://www.cnsnews.com/news/viewstory.asp?Page=%5CForeignBureaus%5Carchive%5C200607%5CINT20060718b.html

The Arab prisoner that Hizballah wants Israel to release in exchange for two abducted Israeli soldiers, is serving multiple life sentences for killing a four-year-old girl with a rifle butt.

...

Kuntar was one of a four-man group that crossed into Israel by sea, sent on the mission by the Palestine Liberation Front (PLF), an affiliate of Yasser Arafat's PLO.

In the coastal town of Nahariya, the terrorists shot dead a policeman and forced their way into an apartment building, where they captured Danny Haran and his daughter, Einat, 4.

...

Meanwhile Kuntar and his group took Danny and Einat Haran to the beach.

"There, according to eyewitnesses, one of them shot Danny in front of Einat so that his death would be the last sight she would ever see," Smadar wrote later.

"Then he smashed my little girl's skull in against a rock with his rifle butt. That terrorist was Samir Kuntar."

2. So, you're saying the information isn't factual?

Ha'aretz?

Sorry, these are Israeli news sources.

Edit: I guess the important thing isn't whether or not this guy smashed a 4 year old girl's head in, it's whether or not you like the news source.

7. I completely believe the story of that murderer
now how about prviding the disposition of the 10,000 held with no charges in Israeli jails. And if you are comparing atrocities, I'd be happy to provide a brief bio of Ariel Sharon. And he didn't get put in jail, he was put in charge of the country. So please stop trying to convince anyone with these selected anecdotes.

8. It's "10,000", now? So how come Hezbollah isn't asking for them?
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 01:52 AM by impeachdubya
They're asking specifically for the guy who landed on the beach, walked into an Israeli town, picked an apartment at random, broke in, kidnapped a man and his four year old daughter, then killed the man in front of the daughter, then smashed the four year old daughter's head in with a rifle butt.

That's who Hezbollah wants in exchange for the soldiers they kidnapped. That's where their priorities are.

But wait! I thought the problem was the source I quoted. You know, it was a "new low" (funny, I would call a "new low" trying to portray terrorist thugs who consider someone like Samir Kuntar a "hero" as anything but what they clearly are)

And now I'm trying to "convince" people of.. what? I haven't said anything here about the larger issues at play. Personally, I think Israel has overreacted and I think it's going to be detrimental for everyone.

But I think we should be honest as to who, and what, Israel is dealing with here. We should be honest about the history and the motives of the folks who have continually attacked Israel for some 60 years. People seem to forget- just like they forget that Israel pulled completely out of Lebanon, and Hezbollah has been attacking them -in Israeli territory- from Southern Lebanon. They forget, or maybe it doesn't occur to them, that Israel pulled out of Gaza, destroying settlements -exactly as they should have done a long time ago, mind you- and the first thing Hamas gets on is firing rockets from Gaza into Israel. (How is that supposed to be motivation for the Israelis to keep pulling out of occupied territories?)

Just like they forget that Hamas, and Hezbollah, aren't just about getting Israel out of the occupied territories- unless Tel Aviv is to be considered "occupied territory" as well.

Today I read an opinion piece that called Hezbollah a "Shiite Resistance" movement. What have they been resisting for the past six years since Israel pulled out of Lebanon?

Anyway, I'm sorry if my "selected anecdotes" screwed up your personal narrative on the subject. Carry on.

3. If "Cybercast News" (who? That's google for you) isn't acceptable:
it seems the quotes from Smadar Kaiser (mother of the little girl killed) came from a 2003 article in the Washington Post:

http://jewishblogging.com/blog.php?bid=71308

My husband, Danny, and I had picnicked with our little girls, Einat, 4, and Yael, 2, on the beach not far from our home in Nahariya, a city on the northern coast of Israel, about six miles south of the Lebanese border. Around midnight, we were asleep in our apartment when four terrorists, sent by Abu Abbas from Lebanon, landed in a rubber boat on the beach two blocks away. Gunfire and exploding grenades awakened us as the terrorists burst into our building.

...

I went in behind her with Yael in my arms. Then Danny grabbed Einat and was dashing out the front door to take refuge in an underground shelter when the terrorists came crashing into our flat. They held Danny and Einat while they searched for me and Yael, knowing there were more people in the apartment. I will never forget the joy and the hatred in their voices as they swaggered about hunting for us, firing their guns and throwing grenades. I knew that if Yael cried out, the terrorists would toss a grenade into the crawl space and we would be killed. So I kept my hand over her mouth, hoping she could breathe.

...

By the time we were rescued from the crawl space, hours later, Yael, too, was dead. In trying to save all our lives, I had smothered her.

The next day,Abu Abbas announced from Beirut that the terrorist attack in Nahariya had been carried out "to protest the signing of the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty"at Camp David the previous year.

I wonder how many Israelis get a trial under Hamas and Hezbollah before they're blown to bits, that is.

6. Yes. This psychopath (or "hero", according to Hezbollah) is the #1
reason they kidnapped the soldiers and started all this. He's a murderer who broke into an unsuspecting family's apartment and deliberately killed a little kid.

Yet reading some of the threads around here, you would think Hezbollah is just a sort of Lebanese Kiwanis Club.

9. Samir Kuntar and Einat Haran
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 06:38 AM by IanDB1
<snip>

Many have forgotten that it was Abu al-Abbas who masterminded one of the most horrific of Palestinian terrorist attacksway back in 1979 in the north Israeli Mediterranean town of Nahariya. On April 22, a Palestinian cell member used his rifle butt to smash in the skull of 4-year old Einat Haran and helped murder her father, Danny Haran aged 32 in the same attack. Two-year old Yael Haran died when her mother, watching her family murdered from an attic, accidentally smothered the child to death to keep her from crying out.

Two of the Palestinian terrorists were killed in the attack; two captured, one of whom was turned loose in the 1985 exchange of prisoners deal. The second, Samir Kuntar, stayed in prison. During the 1982 Lebanese war, a lavish publication produced by al-Abbas’s ALF was discovered depicting the terrible Nahariya episode as a military victory.

Gaining Kuntar’s freedom was the object of the hijack of the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro in 1985 by his controller, the same Abu al- Abbas. This time, he gained lasting infamy by throwing a wheel-chair- bound Jewish American tourist, Leon Klinghoffer, overboard to his death.

Background: Four heavily armed Palestinian terrorists in October hijack the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro, carrying more than 400 passengers and crew, off Egypt. The hijackers demand that Israel free 50 Palestinian prisoners. The terrorists kill a disabled American tourist, 69-year-old Leon Klinghoffer, and throw his body overboard with his wheelchair. After a two-day drama, the hijackers surrender in exchange for a pledge of safe passage. But when an Egyptian jet tries to fly the hijackers to freedom, U.S. Navy F-14 fighters intercept it and force it to land in Sicily. The terrorists are taken into custody by Italian authorities. Counter- terrorist units from the U.S responded, including elements of Delta Force and SEAL Team Six, however the situation was resolved before an assault became necessary.

<snip>

And thus he sets free not POWs but sadists. Even the continued incarceration of savages like Samir Kuntar becomes quasi-illegitimate in the world's eyes and negotiable for the CEO. In 1979 intrepid Kuntar and fellow freedom fighters invaded the Haran family's Nahariya apartment. They led Danny and his four-year-old daughter Einat at gunpoint to the seashore. Before the horrified father, Kuntar held the child upside down by her ankles, swung her hard, and bashed her brains against the rocks. He then shot Danny.

That anyone can contemplate letting Kuntar loose, for whatever investment in our future, desecrates our past and makes mockery of our justice. This could never happen in America, where Jonathan Pollard, who never hurt a fly, continues to rot in prison. But in our inscrutable futures market, nothing's sacred. Einat Haran doesn't matter anymore.

10. Seems to be some confusion on the method of killing
This long after the fact, that makes me skeptical. I'll have to do more research on this.
