2. OH WOW! I'm surprised he conceded at 50% reporting, unless he has
more up to date numbers than I have!

Well, GOO! I know lots of Dems wanted Reed to win because they felt he would be easier to beat, but I'm still glad to see this little sucker choke on his words right now!

6. Oh, damn!
It felt so good knowing he was losing, I was hoping that feeling would last until November!

I have to be quiet at work, though. My boss has a loose personal connection to him. I'll celebrate off the clock.

9. Reed concedes defeat Ga. Lt. Gov primary:link
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 09:15 PM by cal04
It was a stunning turnaround for Reed, who was making his first bid for elective office after working for years as a behind-the-scenes campaign strategist and leading the Christian Coalition and the state Republican Party. He vied with state Sen. Casey Cagle for the GOP nomination in a primary race that appeared closer than expected in recent months because of Reed's work with Abramoff, who pleaded guilty to fraud and corruption earlier this year.

In attack ads and televised debates, Cagle hammered away at Reed's connections to Abramoff, and asked whether Reed could face criminal charges for accepting more than $5.3 million from two Indian tribes.

20. 44.8 percent for Reed.

With him was his wife, Joann, and their four children.

“Today, Joann and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary. It was an important rerminder of what’s really important.

“Stay in the fight, don’t retreat, and our values will win in November,” he said.

Reed left quickly but stopped to say he was pround of the race he ran. He said he had no plans to run for office again right now.

With 43 percent of precincts reporting, the Georgia Secretary of State’s office showed Cagle with 55.2 percent of the vote, compared with 44.8 percent for Reed.

13. here is short story from IP. "stunning turnaround for Reed,"

Updated: 4 minutes ago

ATLANTA - Former Christian Coalition leader Ralph Reed, unable to overcome his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, conceded defeat Tuesday in Georgia’s Republican race for lieutenant governor.

It was a stunning turnaround for Reed, who was making his first bid for elective office after working for years as a behind-the-scenes campaign strategist and leading the Christian Coalition and the state Republican Party. He vied with state Sen. Casey Cagle for the GOP nomination in a primary race that appeared closer than expected in recent months because of Reed’s work with Abramoff, who pleaded guilty to fraud and corruption earlier this year.

In attack ads and televised debates, Cagle hammered away at Reed’s connections to Abramoff, and asked whether Reed could face criminal charges for accepting more than $5.3 million from two Indian tribes.

29. I was really worried he'd win in Nov. if he won the primary.
Never overestimate the intelligence of the Georgia electorate, and never underestimate the power of hackable, unauditable voting machines.

So I'm glad Reed lost tonight. And I'm looking forward to seeing his name forever associated with Jack Abramoff's. Reed should be permanently shamed as a double-dealer and a cynical, pseudo-Christian hypocrite.

23. Good news
Now maybe he will join Abramoff in prison.

I just finished reading American Theocracy in which Kevin Phillips discussed the rise of the religious right but he never once mentioned that their leaders are a bunch of fucking hypocrites, like Reed. I thought that was an interesting omission.

26. Wipe off the face paint, Ralph
"I want to be invisible. I do guerilla warfare. I paint my face and travel at night. You don't know it's over until you're in a body bag. You don't know until election night."
--Ralph Reed, quoted in the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, November 9, 1991

OK, we've kept him out of elective office. Now it's time to send him to prison.

30. I think we might have to do this too.
"Lifelong Democrat Randy New, 52, of Atlanta said he cast a ballot in a Republican primary for the first time for one reason — to defeat Reed."

Vote in the repub primaries to keep the greater of the evils off the ticket.
