News Hounds "We Watch Fox So You Don't Have To" 7/10-16/06
News Hounds Media Digest #91
7/10/06 to 7/16/06

1. Deborah: Bill O'Reilly tried to turn the special edition coverage of the Middle Eastern Crisis into just another partisan finger pointing party until he was calmed by a Democrat.

2. Donna: This week Fox News Live (12 - 1 p.m.) continued it's bias against Democrats with an openly aggressive attack on them which was obvious from the banner they used for the segment: 'Have The Democrats Finally Gone Too Far?' http://www.newshounds.us/2006/07/13/fox_asks_have_the_democrats_finally_gone_too_far.php

3. Ellen: Hannity & Colmes' "special Sunday edition" about the Middle East crisis was more or less a repeat of the same unbalanced discussions from last week: Pro-Israel guests only; no Muslims, no Arabs and no Democrats. The only differences between the panelists' views were whether or not the US military should get involved and whether we should turn the conflict into a confrontation with Iran. In fact, Iran was mentioned so often a viewer could be forgiven for thinking the current tensions involved that country rather than Lebanon. http://tinyurl.com/j82w8

4. Janie: Bob Novak appeared on "Special Report with Brit Hume" Wednesday night to provide an "exclusive" interview detailing his part in the Valerie Plame Affair. The interview was nothing more than a rehash of already divulged information, but Novak used the interview to spin the story in favor of the White House. Hume, of course, refused to ask the hard questions, even leading on Novak's responses.

5. Judy: Pretending it has the wisdom to know who is right and who is wrong in the explosive Middle East conflict, Fox News on Friday downplayed Lebanese civilian deaths caused by Israeli war planes and focused on the injuries to Israelis, rather than attempting to deliver reporting that struck a neutral tone.

6. Melanie: Last Thursday Neil Cavuto claimed - not once, but twice - that the leader of North Korea was Kim ll-sung, Kim Jong-il's father. Kim Il-sung has been dead for 12 years and his son has lead the country for the last ten years. How can a man who spends his life in a news room not know the name of the man we've been threatening to go to war with? And why didn't someone in the control room correct him before he made the mistake the second time? http://tinyurl.com/hbawv

7.Chrish: The channel that brought you the war on Christmas and the guywho's bringing the Culture War just in time for the election jumps the gun on Congress to bring us into World War III. Oh well, we weren't
using the Constitution anyway.

Mike Norman, of BizRadio Network, won this week's most Outrageous Quote with 39% of the vote for his hysterical ranting on The Big Story.

"We are going to be bombed. We're going to be bombed. The stock market, you can say goodbye to it. You can say hello anarchy when that happens." - Mike Norman on North Korea, The Big Story, 7/8/06
