The D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing to join us this Thursday, July 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as we freep Rep. John Murtha ('Rat-Pa.) and support the troops he has foresaken on the battlefield.

We'll gather on the sidewalk in front of the Hyatt Regency at 400 New Jersey Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. The Hyatt is located a few blocks from Union Station.

Please bring flags and signs. Also bring water, it'll be hot.

I'm not sure if we'll be there for all three hours, but we'll start forming up at 11 a.m. and take it from there. Murtha is being 'honored' at a noon luncheon at the Hyatt. Details here.

As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.

But first you should understand that freepers are those who post at freerepublic.com (aka "freeperville"). Like DU, there are different factions but overall they are a bunch of RW nutbags.

When they "freep" they are either trying to skewer the results of things like on-line polls.

They also "freep" when they congregate at an event concerning members of the Democratic party or progressives. They usually get a few people (and when I say "few" I mean few) to stand across the street/nearby and heckle, in what they call "counter-protests". There are usually more signs than freepers. They also like to pretend that more of them showed up than actually did.

On edit before someone goes off: I haven't served in the military. However, I don't spend time trying to knock down someone's patriotism either, just because they don't knee-jerk support everything their holy god Bush does. Murtha's served his country. Freepers bleed it dry, and cry for more.

It's one thing to lurk in the shadows and point out everyone's faults. It's entirely another to show up and tell a decorated veteran that he doesn't support the troops. I really don't think they have a bunny's idea of what they are trying to accomplish, but if they are having a good time in the heat, I believe they should have a go at it. It will keep them entertained for a bit and not really amount to much of anything.
