White house accuses Gore of hypocrisy
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10891443/
WASHINGTON - The White House accused former Vice President Al Gore of hypocrisy Tuesday for his assertion that President Bush broke the law by eavesdropping on Americans without court approval.

“If Al Gore is going to be the voice of the Democrats on national security matters, we welcome it,” White House press secretary Scott McClellan said in a swipe at the Democrat, who lost the 2000 election to Bush only after the Supreme Court intervened.

so-no specifics about how Gore is a Hypocrite....?

1. Aldrich Ames spy case is not an example of illegal warrantless wiretaps...
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 03:04 PM by Junkdrawer
Aldrich Ames spy case is not an example of illegal warrantless wiretaps or searches by the Clinton Administration.

Ever since it was revealed that President Bush authorized warrantless wiretaps of Americans, Republican strategists have been scrambling to find precedents for his illegal activities in earlier administrations, or case law that would legitimize extra-legal surveillance at the behest of the cheif executive.

They haven't been able to find any, but the attempt is rather fun to watch.

....

In reality, the Ames case is a textbook example of how the FBI was able to uncover a deadly foreign agent without the use of extra-legal authority from the President.

The FBI followed proper protocol for searches of Ames's home and office through the Attorney Generals (AG) office. Also, as required by FISA, all electronic surveillance of Ames was authorized by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. According to Aldrich Ames's Criminal Complaint form:

"Paragraph 11: As a result of information obtained through electronic surveillance authorized by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, searches authorized by the Attorney General pursuant to section 2.5 of Executive Order 12333, trash covers, and other investigation which is detailed herein, I believe AMES has traveled abroad to meet surreptitiously with KGB/SVRR."

9. Thanks for the link... but the URL is a lot shorter.

For some reason, people keep linking to the session-ID for that article. The much cleaner URL is:

www.brainshrub.com/aldrich-ames-case

Not that I'm complaining. I'm flattered that you found it useful.

11. I Googled it up and had to get to it through Google's Cache feature...
because it's off the front page. When I clicked the article's title, I found a link that took me right there, so I went with it.

BTW: Thanks for the research. Clinton's use of a Reagan executive finding is being equated with Bush's completely lawless policy. Amazing.

13. I wish I knew how to get Google to stop indexing the session IDs.
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 03:05 PM by brainshrub
It's annoying.

The Aldrich Aimes article is getting a lot of attention, a lot of dems are using it to counter the arguments of the Kool-aid drinkers.

I'm honored, but I won't get any credit for the traffic on my pagerank because people are linking to the session-ID, not the actual article. (Kos and Atrios bloggers have done the same thing you have.)

Brainshrub.com is an established, respectable blog with high-traffic. I use Drupal CMS, which is supposed to be very friendly to search-engines.

Yet Google consistently indexes the session-IDs!

For the life of me, I don't understand why.

14. I updated my link. But, so there is no misunderstanding...
Google pointed me to your home page and I got the session id via a click on your title.

BTW: Google now has a link directly to the article:

Google "Aldrich Ames warrant" and you're number 4 on the list.

See: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Aldrich+Ames+warrant

20. Oh great! The session-id problem is even worse than I thought!
:(

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I'll start researching it why the site does that... I thought it was Google's fault.

Forgive me, oh mighty Google-goddess for doubting you!

12. Well, we don't have to worry, surely American Journalism
will probe this scurrilous accusation by the White House for examples or details and get to the bottom of who is correct.:sarcasm:

18. REBUTTAL to "Clinton performed physical search without warrant" BS
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x164319

Here it is. Practice it:

"I think its hysterical when a Republican points to Clinton's order for a physical search without a warrant as justification for Bush's illegal wiretaps. It just shows how truly misinformed they are. Everyone knows that the FISA law allowed physical searches without a warrant back when Clinton made that order, and then FISA was subsequently changed SPECIFICALLY to disallow it afterwards. This CLEARLY is proof that Pres. Bush is violating the law, and I think if the Republicans realized this, they would stop making that association, since it does nothing but HELP PROVE Bush has committed a crime."

Pass it on.
