WTF is going on at CNN with Anderson Cooper?
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 12:32 PM by jsamuel
Newsnight was a great program with important international news.

Now with Anderson Cooper they have this crap on instead:

"The manhunt for dangerous prisoners ends. How past prison breaks can help police track down escapees."

OMFG, who wants to watch this stuff at 10 pm? It's like The View at night! CNN is supposed to be a NEWS CHANNEL, NOT A TALK SHOW FORUM!

And they wonder why their ratings for that time slot has fallen???

1. But he's so passionate . . .
And has great hair.

Who cares what he's talking about?

7. And he's a Vanderbilt....and....
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 12:36 PM by iconoclastNYC
He's sensitive and unmarried. And he lives in Chelsea.

Honestly I think Anderson is great. CNN is the problem. They tell him what to cover, and they want puff pieces. I wish these multi-millionaire newspeople would band together, leave en masse, and form a real news network.

14. But he's a millionaire!
You'd think he'd be able to tell CNN he'll cover things his way or leave. He certainly did that during Hurricane Katrina. But since then his show has become as bland & empty as the rest of TV news.

23. Yeah you are right.
And the solution to low ratings is to go deeper into the gutter for better ratings. Since FOX got on the scene it's been a race to the bottom in cable news.

Olberman is the only standout and he'll probably get the Donahue treatment as soon as possible.

I hope not, but I expect it. Maybe he can go to Comedy Central and do real news? :D

5. I agree. Aaron Brown calmy reported the news w/o hype and sensationalism.
Now my tv is off after Countdown. The sad part is I almost never stay up for the Daily Show anymore.

Hey jsamuel, I am going to a Howard Dean Press release tomorrow and I plan to include your screen saver as one of the items I hand to him about the '04 election in Lucas County. Thanks again for saving that screen!

8. I think it has sunk in to the CNN brass that they screwed up

by letting Aaron Brown go. Now they are experimenting with their "on the scene" guy. Problem is there are no real "scenes" right now for Cooper to be "on" and they have no idea how to use him. I, for one, would prefer Brown to be back in his old time slot. Ironically enough, I now watch Alton Brown at that time when he is on the Food Network.

9. Wasn't this the crap his show at 8:00 pm used to show which was
another good reason to watch Olberman? Cooper's shows don't discuss politics and most important news. It tends to be whatever the hot bullshit story of the week happens to be at the time.

Rita, Greta, and now Anderson.

11. They're turning Cooper into a Geraldo Rivera type journo.
Pure bullshit. Every now and then he'll do a leftleaning story and the rest will be sentimental crap that addresses NO IMPORTANT ISSUES that speak directly to this nation's governance.

15. I don't think Cooper has a say in the format
and he doesn't look thrilled at all doing this bunk. Not only have they dumped Brown, they are wasting Cooper's talents as well. I think A.C. does a great job when he is covering real news.

Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 05:01 PM by grateful581
they first cancel Crossfire, Aaron Brown is gone, Wolf is shooting republican propaganda all day, and the last straw is hiring glen beck.
I hate glen beck, he is a disgrace to broadcasting.

I guess they want the sheep to come over from faux news.

20. Why aren't people protesting around the clock in front of CNN
with signs that say "propaganda"? That's what I want to know. I despise being propagnandized. IF I lived in Atlanta, or New York I'd start a group just to do that. The ire I feel at being manipulated, and used by mass media is that strong. Our locals news here in Portland isn't that bad-probably because the city itself is so progessive. But I swear I don't understand why progressives think they get a fair hearing on these cable shows-I think they all should be called out for what they are. THAT would make more news than any twisted, edited soundbite of Kerry, Gore or Dean.

Remember the Dean scream? What do you think propaganda is? CNN had some part in ending the Dean ticket. I know he didn't get the votes. But that "news" channel was making the news and creating the news that affected that man forever. Where are the Deanies? They should make it their personal campaign to end CNN forever. Just a thought.

22. Wasn't it Cooper that reported in New Orleans
And he was deploring the conditions those people were in, even reporting on the dead he saw.

I am thinking he had a change of heart about the corporate agenda, and the brass has decided he should be put-out to pasture.

I wasn't willing to believe he was truly aghast at what he witnessed in NO. But maybe he has been shocked enough to go with what he really thinks, thus become someone that could help take this country back.

His activities on the lead-up to Iraq War made me skeptical during NO, but who knows, maybe he has come around. People can change if given sufficient motive and they want to change. And before Bu$h got in, Cooper was a bright rising star.

Him being a 'Vanderbilt' doesn't matter I think. There was a time when the wealthy felt it was their personal responsibility to better society. Maybe coming from a wealthy family some of those old values did rub-off on him.

Just speculating, I'd say the brass is punishing him for wandering too close to people values.

We'll see.
