Bush Rejects Lebanon's Call for Cease-Fire

Jul 14, 4:02 PM (ET)

By TOM RAUM

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) - President Bush rejected Lebanon's calls for a cease-fire in escalating Mideast violence on Friday, saying only that Israel should try to limit civilian casualties as it steps up attacks on its neighbor.

"The president is not going to make military decisions for Israel," White House spokesman Tony Snow said.

Lebanon's prime minister asked Bush, during a phone call Friday, to pressure Israel for a cease-fire. But Bush told Prime Minister Fuad Saniora that Israelis have a right to protect themselves.

a crisis created by bush and israel, a crisis DESIGNED to 'justify' a strike against IRAN. when it was revealed israel had been planning this campaign BEFORE their soldiers were 'abducted', the truth was pretty clear indeed.

26. You are right on and look how easy it was to start!
We thought we would be prepared and that the whole world would rise and stop Bush. But, just look how easy it is to start the ball rolling and have everything appear just how they wanted it. I am sick about this and the MEDIA are responsible for the deaths that will follow for being so stupid as to spread the lies.

I guess Bush doesn't give a damn about them either. A cease-fire would give then the opportunity to evacuate.

31. kind of ironic....
Bush gets all apoplectic over N Korea setting off a few dud fireworks and starts whining that China and Russia need to pull the leash on N. Korea (because they're scarin' us - boo hoo), while elements from our "allies" in Pakistan perform terrorist acts in India and we look the other way. Israel wigs out (the 4th most powerful Army in the world) and invades another country and starts raining all sorts of hell down on a civilian population and we do nothing but hold their coats for 'em (and pay for it also)...

Regardless of the inane, incompetent and impotent policies that have us mired in Iraq... What kind of insanity is it that could possibly think that these are the actions of a "benevolent superpower"? George Bush has single-handedly turned this country into the equivalent of nothing more than the fat bully that everybody laughs and sneers at....

35. They are not just "jusstifying" this violence. They are trying to incite
attacks, preferably from Iran and/or Syria.

That is what they are after: an excuse to bomb Iran.

The PNAC agenda continues to unfold.

36. Lebanon: Bush administration claimed democracy is spreading just last year

Elizabeth L. Cheney, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State
Remarks to Foreign Policy Association Annual Dinner
New York, NY
June 14, 2005

...We are living through historic times – for the world and for US foreign policy. From Ukraine to Afghanistan to Iraq to Georgia to Lebanon, we are seeing the expansion of freedom.... In February ... the Lebanese people rose up – one million of them marched in Beirut.... They are now in the midst of their first truly free elections in decades.... We’ve been inspired by images beamed out of Afghanistan and Iraq and Lebanon.... The Lebanese want their liberty, and they have a memory of a rich parliamentary life, of a decent balance of power that gave all the communities of this small but creative land a stake in their country.... a valiant Lebanese population braved police rule to secure liberty....

These same valiant, inspiring Lebanese are now the bad guys, right? Must be, or we'd advocate against bombing them if they were still valiant.

39. This is my prediction:
Bush is interested in only one thing as far as this conflict is concerned and that is enticing Iran into the fray. When that happens, he'll be on the tube telling us we're going to war again. It could happen within a few days. If I had any money to bet, I'd put it on war with Iran.

40. No "WTF" comment necessary - Bush wants this war! He's so excited!
Pretty soon he'll step forward and say we are sending in troops/special forces to rescue stranded Americans in Lebanon (there are over 25,000 Americans who live and work there). Then there will be an "incident" in the Mediterranen Sea where a US ship is going to be hit and it will necessitate retaliation. Somewhere Syria and Iran will be pulled in and next thing you know - Voila! Presto! Big full blown Nuclear War in the Middle East, and Bush gets to play there and say "hey, we didn't start it, its just the War on Terror!"

:puke:
