W alone fighting WW III while Gore worries the ice is melting in Greenland
From Media matters:

Glenn Beck: Bush alone fighting "World War III," while Gore worries that "he ice is starting to melt in Greenland"

Summary: On his CNN Headline News show, Glenn Beck proclaimed that recent violence in the Middle East and India are evidence that "we've got World War III to fight," and also warned of "the impending apocalypse." Beck added that President Bush is facing the threat "by himself," while former Vice President Al Gore is more concerned with the fact that "he ice is starting to melt in Greenland."

7. Well considering Bush is the one who started WWIII
I'd say its his mess to clean up. I'm sure if Gore were president, he could have the entire matter cleared up within his first 60 days on the job.

We have to keep dispelling the myth that the current state of global war and insecurity has been brought about solely by Bush's mismanagement and that fixing it will not be difficult.

..signal can only be picked up in West Orange County past Disney World. Good jazz on University of Central Florida FM 89.9, classical on FM 90.7 and some nice smooth jazz on FM 103.5, but they have too many commercials. The rest of the broadcasts here really suck.

57. Clinton had it under control
Bush is the one who dismantled the system for tracking terrorism the first 30 days on the job.

It would be very easy to clean up. Get out of Iraq, bring in the UN. Return to using diplomacy and working with our allies to track down terrorists.

Pretty simple.

Oh, BTW, welcome to DU. Your president sucks.

28. Lets compare potential death tolls between ME war and global warming
ME War: Likely worst-case scenario, Syria gets involved with their stockpiles of nerve gas vs. Israel with their nuclear weapons. Millions die in the exchange.

Global warming: 20-ft sea level rise from the melting of glaciers in Greenland and Antartica would displace hundreds of millions and destroy millions of acres of cropland around the world. Starvation and disease spread rampantly; tens of millions die. Areas like the Great Plains become semi-desert, incapable of being farmed. Wars break out over resources. Hundreds of millions more die.

Global warming scares me a hell of a lot more than war in the Middle East.

'Is sea level rising?

Global mean sea level has been rising at an average rate of 1 to 2 mm/year over the past 100 years, which is significantly larger than the rate averaged over the last several thousand years. Projected increase from 1990-2100 is anywhere from 0.09-0.88 meters, depending on which greenhouse gas scenario is used and many physical uncertainties in contributions to sea-level rise from a variety of frozen and unfrozen water sources.'

This may make you sleep better at night. I hope it helps.

59. I don't understand...
'The reason Global Warming scares you more than a war in the Middle East is because like your favorite leaders you think someone else is going to fight it for you.'

The reason the war in the ME scares me more is because it is a much more imminent threat. At the rate of heat increase, science says it will be hundreds, maybe thousands of years to produce the dooms-day scenario that 'scares' you.

The above does not mean I don't believe in global warming (because I do) nor does it mean I don't believe pollution (from the US) is causing it...because I do.

You seem very hostile to me and it hurts..........HURTS!!

62. If you think sea levels will rise less than one meter in 100 years
You should ask this same question over on the Environmental board here. Previous NOAA scenarios didn't take into account the millions of tons of greenhouse gases, such as methane and CO2, that are now being released from the thawing tundra, for example. It also doesn't consider thawing methane hydrates on the sea floor that could release millions of tons of methane into the atmosphere.

Global warming is entering a near-exponential phase, where a small degree of warming triggers a much larger degree of warming as positive feedback kicks in.
