Previous NOAA scenarios didn't take into account the millions of tons of greenhouse gases, such as methane and CO2, that are now being released from the thawing tundra, for example. It also doesn't consider thawing methane hydrates on the sea floor that could release millions of tons of methane into the atmosphere.

Global warming is entering a near-exponential phase, where a small degree of warming triggers a much larger degree of warming as positive feedback kicks in.
