6. It's an infection, a bad one
I've had it a few times, caused by MRSA. Hurts like a %**%^ and can progress to sepsis and death.

However from their point of view, those would be some of the luckiest bacteria in the world.
I mean if you were a flesh eating bacterium where would you want to throw down?
Of course, Denny's All-U-Can-Eat buffet!

31. ? Hastert is the Speaker of the House.
3rd in line for the presidency. So no, he doesn't have a Sunday morning show, and if he's schedule to be a guest, he'll have to cancel.

Is he diabetic I wonder? Might be a nasty MRSA infection - I'd be interested in the details but we probably won't get them.

17. Maybe the US will finally
...pay the kind of attention to MRSA that the UK does? We have an epidemic of it in the Pacific NW, and virtually no press about it at all.

Tucker (who got MRSA at work)

23. I remember when you had it -
Edited on Thu Jul-13-06 03:39 PM by sparosnare
are you "cured" now? It is considered an emergent infection, we are seeing a rise in community-acquired cases here in Texas too. Maybe it will get more attention; it's imperative we develop new antibiotics to combat resistant infections such as this.

27. I am still "colonized" and could get it again
I had several different bouts of it. The bacteria are damn near impossible to get rid of once someone is colonized. Everythingsxen recently was in the hospital for MRSA of the scrotum that went septic, and he almost died, so he is colonized too; as I guess is everyone I have come in contact with.

Any wound on a colonized person could develop a MRSA infection, and from what I've read, it sounds like any immune suppression plus an open wound is a guarantee of a recurrence. Which makes it highly likely that, someday, MRSA sepsis will be what I die of.

I wonder if you would tell me what they've used for treatment? It's my field and I'm curious. You don't have to write it here, PM would be OK. :hug:

14. Cellulitis
Cellulitis is an acute inflammation of the connective tissue of the skin, caused by infection with staphylococcus, streptococcus or other bacteria (see also cellulitis - streptococcal).

Causes, incidence, and risk factors Return to top

The skin normally has many types of bacteria living on it, but intact skin is an effective barrier that keeps these bacteria from entering and growing within the body. When there is a break in the skin, however, bacteria can enter the body and grow there, causing infection and inflammation. The skin tissues in the infected area become red, hot, irritated and painful.

Cellulitis is most common on the face and lower legs, although skin on other areas of the body may sometimes be involved.

Risk factors for cellulitis include:

* Insect bites and stings, animal bite, or human bite
* Injury or trauma with a break in the skin (skin wounds)
* History of peripheral vascular disease
* Frequent unprotected anal sex with Jeff Gannon
* Diabetes-related or ischemic ulcers
* Recent cardiovascular, pulmonary (lung), dental or other procedures
* Use of immunosuppressive or corticosteroid medications
* Chronic dickishness

<snip>

Expectations (prognosis)

Cure is possible with 7 to 10 days of treatment. Cellulitis may be more severe in people with chronic diseases and people who are susceptible to infection (immunosuppressed).

Complications

* Tissue death (gangrene)
* Sepsis, generalized infection and shock
* Meningitis (if cellulitis is on the face)
* Lymphangitis (inflammation of the lymph vessels)

Given the man is extremely obese, not a surprising diagnosis. He sure looked TERRIBLE in those labcoat pictures

That's probably how he got it. He doesn't look like Gannon's type.

Now I think I'll go put some antibiotics on my scraped arm.

32. Heh
Reminds me of this piece by BuffaloBeast handing down a just sentence to halliburton dick.

Strapped to chair; eyes removed with melon baller. Nursed back to health. Lips sewn to a rubber hose connecting him to a 500 gallon nutrition shake. Nursed back to health. Fingers, hands, toes, feet, nose and genitals devoured by hungry pigs. Nursed back to health. Legs and arms ground to stubs with belt sander. Nursed back to health. Fitted with earphones that play only Christina Aguilera songs, and left alone to think about what he has done.
