Please act on this. The act originated with the Civil Rights Movement, it is up for renewal now. It must not be allowed to expire or to be watered down by amendments.

Ask your Congressman to vote for H.R. 9, and to oppose all amendments.

The amendments will only thwart the purpose of the Act.

Along with Evoting being a problem, disenfranching minorities who vote Democratic is the other big ploy of the GOP.

"Right-wing members of the House of Representatives have found a new way to delay and subvert the reauthorization of key provisions in the Voting Rights Act.

A band of Republicans from southern states had been stalling the bill (H.R. 9) by simply delaying a vote, but that strategy was unsuccessful thanks to the efforts of activists like you. Now they’re tampering with the content of the reauthorization bill itself.

H.R. 9 is on the House floor for debate and a vote TODAY. There are four amendments offered – all by ultraconservative members – that would each significantly weaken the VRA.
