Rush's War On Gore, And Science, Continues
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 09:45 AM by JABBS
<snip>

Just as Limbaugh has a right to spew, others have a right to fact-check.

LIMBAUGH (July 7): "I read something the other day that says in the last four years, surface temperatures on average have not gone up. They’ve gone down one-tenth of a degree Celsius. If they’re trending anywhere, they’re trending down the last four years."

JAMES HANSEN, DIRECTOR, NASA (January 24): “The five warmest years over the last century occurred in the last eight years.”

According to Hansen, 2005 was the warmest year in the last century, followed by 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2004. You'll note that 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 are "the last four years."

<snip>

An earlier attack on Gore was based on "science" Limbaugh cobbled from Rogelio Maduro, the associate editor of a magazine published by the Lyndon LaRouche network.

2. The self hatred of believers marchs on.
The limbaughs of the world when Galileo was doing his work would have engaged in Galileo's demise. "Conservatives" make a sport of wallowing in ignorance and self hate. And the "conservative" think tanks that limbaugh relies on are part of that sport. No doubt, the heritage foundation will soon have a "study" that will make slavery the key to our economic future. And his hatred of President Gore is nothing but political because he sure doesn't need to know or learn anything to sate his audiences appetite for more ignorance.

Who cares what a drug addict on viagra has to say? Consider the source and don't give it another thought.

6. 13.5 million daily listeners
If he was some jerk at the end of the bar, I wouldn't care. But he influences more people than any of the network news programs -- that's a lot of disinformation power.

10. Right, and I hear these "facts" parroted back by the dildo-heads that
listen to him. It's good to be aware of the most recent talking points so as to be ready to refute them.

11. Wrong Number
That number is the weekly cumulative. He does NOT have 13.5 million listeners.

a correction should be made promptly.

Still, that means he has 2.7 million daily listeners, which is still a lot -- tops among political radio hosts.

18. Well, Not Exactly
Somewhere in the archives here, there is a post i did a few years back. In that i reviewed the Arbitron rating numbers in detail.

What i recall, is that first, the number includes Saturday replay numbers which are often among those who listen during the week. So, there is some double counting, but i don't remember the exact fraction.

Secondly, Arbitron uses a term called "passive listenership". This includes people like the guy who works for a mechanic who listens to Rush, and some percentage of that captive listener is counted. So for every 50 people like that, it adds 10 or 15 or 20 to the listnership.

Lastly, the passive listenership includes people entering a place of business for more than 10 minutes while a program is on. That whole number is a statistical estimate based upon the number of businesses in which the program is played.

So, there are some in that 2.7 million that aren't really listeners, or certainly aren't fans. However, that might mean there are still 2 and half million dimwits who listen to this idiotic, college-dropout, drug abuser. That's depressing.

8. in one of the recent examples
on JABBS, the culprit is the oil company-backed CEI.

In an earlier example cited on JABBS (check the link), the source was a Lyndon LaRouche "scientist," if you can believe that.

19. I lost a friend over this type of comment...
asked her to back up what she read by giving me the source or where she read it - she took offense and friendship of almost 40 years has melted down to an occasional email with a sentence or two. She is a rich repuke whose husband likes dubya for only one reason, tax savings - they retired this year at 56!

Similar comment from Rush and his pals: "They say" - who says? you never get an answer or they give a possibility of the way something works, then it ends up as fact!

20. "I read something somewhere that unquestionly challenges
this global warming baloney my friends. this article said that some credible scientists have conducted studies and gone to places in the world no one else has bothered to go and these people, some people say, have the numbers that PROVE beyond any doubt that Gore is dead wrong, the world is not warming up. Believe me my friends, I've seen the numbers and numbers do not lie."

"Some people also say that....blah blah blah."

Name a source Rushbo, give us background information other than: "Listen my friends, some people say."
